Geeze Mere... We paved our driveway 2 years ago. The guy did a lousy job, it squished out and onto the neighbors property. The only way to remove it is to cut it out. We haven't done that yet, although we planned to. Have the paving guy come back and talk to him about doing that. Hemlocks are huge. What was she thinking? I think I would get the fence guy out pronto, think about getting the fence put in now. They will surely grow over the line, if you cut them on your side it totally ruins the look. Are you going to have a surveyer come out? Well, one good thing to come of this, she won't be borrowing the mower lol I'm so sick of neighbors. You try to be nice then get pooped on. Wonder if she'll let you see the kids any more. That's the hardest. I was relieved when my iron borrowing neighbor moved, some of the stunts she pulled were low. I don't get it. She borrowed & broken my iron & 2 cell phones, yet I'm the one that's the (insert word here)... Halloween they brought the kids over, hadn't seen them in months. I was then outside working in the garden, kneeling on their property... Out she comes with the 3 youngest to pick up the oldest from the bus... She puts my little sweetie girl on her right side, then proceeds to drive the carriage on the grass, walking as far from me as possible. She made sure my little sweetie girl didn't see me. I didn't get to say good bye to the kids. The mother was shipping them off to their G'ma's, they were loaded in the car, my husband almost didn't get to say goodbye. It's probably for the best, it hurt me to see the kids go, couldn't imagine how the little ones felt. Funny how people think. She swore to everyone that would listen that I gave her a broken iron, which is hilarious if you know me. I'm so anal about replacing things I think are going. Worked fine to iron my clothes for dad's viewing. I wonder if yours will start telling stories too. Mere the home-wrecker. If she was so worried about her husband doing something behind her back, why did she even start a friendship?

no shrub is going to run roots 50 feet ... just plant it far away.. and dont worry about it.. and dont call me in 25 years if you have a problem.. lol if you were wondering about a 300 foot sequoia .. then 50 feet would be an issue... if a tree is twice as big below as above [so the sequoia might have roots 600 feet away, i suppose] ... and we simply call your shrub a small tree .... and if the PW can get 15 feet high ... [had one at mom and dads get a little carried away] .... then i doubt it is going to get 50 feet of roots .. besides the fact that shrubs just arent going to have that aggressive a root system that far from the trunk ... just logic for me.. i am sure the science geeks will add more ...... ken

Thanks for all the comments, positive or negative. Of course you don't know me or my neighbor so that is expected. 1. First and foremost, I want to do the survey and make sure the neighbor's survey is accurate. So far I have not found anyone who is doing survey only for one side for under $1000. This is unbelievable but I guess that's how the rates are. 2. I have created a claim with my insurance company. Not sure what the outcome will be but right now they are "investigating". 3. Well I am not being "nasty" or whatever that implies. If I were, this could have been gone in different direction. I am working with my neighbor and figuring out what needs to be done. So far we are on the same page. We have decided which trees to plant and who to call for getting work done. Anyway, overall this is good lesson learned for me. If this situation was reversed and I was in that neighbor's shoes; I would have let go all this. I am not saying this for the sake of saying because now I am the one who is culprit but anyway... This is important lesson for me because if something like this happens in future from neighbors, I know what to do.

Just for reference, we have three quarter acre lot with am 8 year old, three bedroom, three bathroom, etc. house. Our septic system consist of a 1000gal digestion tank, and a 1000 gal, water holding tank. There is a line of about 80' to the distribution box which supplies 3 - 130' leach lines. The three leach line cover an area of about 4500 sqft. The length of the distribution line, plus the area of the two tank must also be consider when planting. The system snakes over 200 feet across our back yard. Also there is an area that is designate a rebuild area equal to the area of the leach bed. If you plant in this area, any thing there will be taken out when the digging is done to install the new replacement leach lines. Our system is a what is called a pressurized system. In our previous houses, as I remember, the non pressurize system's leach lines covered only a slightly less area, There are many different configuration for septic systems. When they are installed the topography of the lot, the type of soil, technology, and City, Local, State, and Federal regulation must be considered. Some systems take up more space that others. To my knowledge there is no ONE modern system. Before starting to planting you need to know what kind of septic system you have. With my house (8 years old in NC) the system is described in the County Health Department inspections which is part of the building permit. In NC this was provided to us as part of the closing paperwork when we bought the house. The septic system is one of the inspection that has to be performed during the closing. As for planting trees, If you don't plant a tree in the middle of the leach field or on top of the tanks you should be OK. We have a wooded lot. When the septic system was put in the problem areas were clear during the installation of the system. Since we moved in I have respected those area when considering what I plant.
