I only have one climber, Candy Land, that I just got this spring so I really don't know much about them. In your zone most of them should do well though. A number of the David Austin roses will climb in the US and most of them are fragrant so you could look at those. For really big displays you might want to look at the OGR climbers and ramblers. Ramblers would be good on a fence line. I know most people really love their New Dawn roses and that gets pretty huge. I hope more people chime in with specific recommendations for you.

Hi zeil thank u for the suggestion .,how is your candy land climbing?is it disease resistant?i want to try the OGR along the fence and I would a repeat blooming cl roses in my arbor because it's gonna be the focal point.i do need a lot of recommendations for front yard roses and backyard,and I wanna put rose hedges between my two neighbors property line about 5feet and repeat blooming and disease resistant.

Seil I forgot to tell u that I do have abraham Darby my husband bought it for me and that's when I start falling in love with roses especially the David Austin I love the fragrance!(heavenly)but AD get blackspot so I'm looking for a disease resistant DA roses or OGR .hope someone can suggest me a climbing DA roses for my zone.thanks

A number of the Austins would make lovely climbers for an arbor that size. I have Crown Princess Margareta on my arbor and Teasing Georgia as a climber on a trellis along the wall of the house (both apricots; nice fruity scent). Brother Cadfael (huge pink blooms, thornless) also does nicely here.

One of my absolute favorite Austins that would work as a short climber is Jude the Obscure, beautiful flowers (still flowering now! a yellow blend) and an absolutely amazing scent--even better than Abraham Darby if you can believe it. Pretty light on the thorns too.

Strawberry Hill is another pink with a myrrh scent that has a climbing habit in my zone and is always in bloom. And Graham Thomas is a rock-solid reliable yellow that would make a lovely climber for an arbor--rich yellow, with a strong Tea scent.

That is a few of my favorite Austins with a climbing habit at present, although there are many more that would be suitable.

I really can't tell you much about Candy Land yet because I just got it this spring. It did bloom for me all season which I liked very much but it hasn't grown much yet. Climbers can take 3 or 4 years to do any real climbing so be patient.

I have Golden Celebration and Graham Thomas and I like them both. Golden Celebration gets taller than Graham Thomas at about 12 feet. But then Graham Thomas has less of a black spot problem than Golden Celebration so it's a toss up.

For OGRs I'd suggest posting your question on the antiques forum. They'll probably have more suggestions for you.

Teasing Georgia blooms non-stop and they smell nice but she's the largest Austin I've ever had--maybe it is the location (full sun) but she reached my 2nd story windows in her second year here and looms like a monster over the other roses in the bed. The trellis I have her on is not big enough currently to provide room to support the canes. She could probably cover your arbor single-handedly.

Oddly, for me Golden Celebration stays a largish arching shrub, while Graham Thomas is an 8 foot-ish climber--may be location, as Graham gets more sun.

If you are ordering from Chamblees, get the climber Dublin Bay. I have 2 and they are healthy and bloom lots. I live near Chamblees and go whenever I can. They have great roses at great prices. With them, you will get a rose - Heirloom [whom I also like and order from] you will get small bands that take awhile to grow. A climber I intend to get next time I am there [which I hope will be next week!] is climbing Pink Don Juan - beautiful color and lots of blooms. You will be delighted with Chamblees roses!

Dublin Bay bloomed well and grew into a large climber here--the only drawback was a lack of fragrance.
