Comments (91)We'll all come stay with you. I got dibs on the couch. :-) In the hot desert cities, the days of the heavily watered lawns are done - its all gravel xeriscaping, sports fields are artificial turf. Las Vegas is paying a significant amount of money if you tear up your lawn and put gravel - something like $1,000 then the water savings. I don't hang out much in Phoenix, but driving through, all the new construction is xeriscape. I'm on one of the tributaries to the Colorado, my irrigation company has the 2nd most senior rights on the river, #1 being some outfit down in Gateway, a ranch bought up - along with the water rights - by a dot.com tycoon and turned it into a luxury resort so they need the water for their golf course. They've only put in a call once, in history, about 5 years ago. Otherwise, our irrigation company rules the river. Now amongst us shareholders, things are getting interesting this drought season, with the special irrigation deputy sheriff getting 40 calls a day to come sort out squabbles. Even with the senior rights, our irrigation will be shut off in the next few weeks. Unless we get *lucky* and catch one of these massive cloudbursts over the upper watershed....See Moreolder Asko or newer Miele washing machine
Comments (1)"....able to wash with high temp...." If your idea of "high temp" is above 155-160F, your choice will be limited to 220v machines. If you want to be able to personally select a particular temperature in a cycle as opposed to selecting whatever the mfgr's euphemism for a cycle may be, you're almost limited to Miele. Almost everybody else offers only "cold"/"warm"/"hot" as selections available but they DO NOT tell you what they mean by those words. For example, my Duet 9400 set on "hot" in a cycle that doesn't utilize the on-board heater actually delivers 100-105F max during the wash. That's not what I call "hot". I do have two cycles available that deliver actual temp of 127F and another that goes to 157F but I had to call and badger the phone-tech in order to be advised what those temps actually were. Be sure you know what your machine will actually deliver....See MoreComparing health of newer and older rose varieties
Comments (6)Generally, yes, each decade sees the bar raised for health, vigor, quantity and quality of flowers, quality and quantity of foliage, etc. That doesn't take into consideration other variables such as suitability for where you are, your conditions, gardening style and personal taste. On the whole, though, newer roses are, in many ways, better garden plants with fewer health and vigor issues than the vast majority of those which preceded them. Of course, there are exceptions because occasionally something really superior is raised. Those often tend to be the ones which help lead to the improved roses of the next decade....See MoreSettings for using newer Advantium recipes in older over
Comments (1)I have the first generation advantium. That means it was developed I think in the late 90's. No one had even heard of a speed oven but that's what it was/is. The new ones have convection, a second level shelf and I don't know what else. So yes you can cook whatever you want with a little bit of fiddling. Look in your original cook book and find something similar to what you're trying to cook Then use the three settings to adjust your own recipe. If it turns out well, write it in your cook book. Yes you can write in your cook book even though my German mother would be appalled. Over the years I've purchased used cook books. They're so much fun to read; the notes the various cooks wrote. Just experiment a bit and you'll find it works for you and it may even improve the original recipe. Good luck Inga who always makes notes in her cook books and thinks of her mother :))....See Moreseil zone 6b MI
