Blush Noisette blew over in the wind

We have a Blush Noisette that's grown for several years in a large wooden planter box, since I never got around to planting it in the ground. :-( The roots grew out the bottom and eventually into the ground, and the rose did well....

... until the winds blew hard last weekend and blew it over, pulling the root ball out of the ground. :-(

We don't have a space large enough for a mature BN, so we're considering giving it away.

However -- perhaps we could keep it pruned into a smaller shrub and plant it in the ground in this spot.

How does BN respond to yearly pruning of this sort? Would it be better to give it away to a good home?
