We are supposed to go down to 28 tonight. I had to do a double-take when I read that forecast this morning. I didn't plant anything out yet but I do have some basil sprouts that I will bring indoors.

We are supposed to get to 31 tonight. The only thing I will bring in are my tomatoes that are in pots.

It's kind of amazing, but we're way up here in mid-NH, and we're only supposed to be 35 tonight. Amazing how all year the colder weather is south of us. We are supposed to have some snow falling, though, so I'll have to think about what to cover. My jugs will be fine, but I might cover a couple of things already in the ground with a bit of mulch.

You can get frost at 35°- depends on the humidity and wind.

Frost warning tonight here, too. I'm going to put the tomatoes in the garage. My snaps would be OK at these temps, but the ones in contact with the sides of the jug might be in trouble.

I don't get frost in my backyard, very protected, but I've had 4 phone calls today, warning me about the frost (30 degrees) we're supposed to get here in SE Michigan tonight. So, I brought some stuff in, and "hid" alot of my plants under the picnic table, chairs, etc, and will cover the rest with a lime green plastic tablecloth. There's always a first time for everything, and I'd really hate to lose these plants, it has been such a great year!

Forecast for north central CT calls for a low of 36 tonight. I brought a tomato plant inside the garage and wrapped the pot in a fleece throw for the night. Everything else that's up or planted out/potted up is on its own. The only annuals planted out so far are CA poppies. I hope they don't get nipped but if they do, it's my bad plus a lesson learned for next year. I hope the peony poppies I planted out are okay but if they don't make it I have a few more WS jugs with sprouts in them as backups.
So many things are up early this year thanks to the warm weather we've had in March & April. My crabapple tree bloomed last week. I looked up my 2009 garden notes and according to what I read, it bloomed in May last year. The hosta seem to be shot out of a cannon this year they've come up so fast.
Crossing my fingers everyone's sprouts, seedlings and early perennials come through the night none the worse for wear.

We're supposed to get frost tonight, too. I covered the tomatoes and some other stuff, but I've already planted out alyssum, some coreopsis, and some victoria salvia. I'm especially worried about the salvia. Should I cover that?

Frost (32 deg) for us too tonight. I had a flannel sheet, so I put that over all the containers that have sprouted outside. Maybe it wasn't needed, but it made me feel better knowing my sprouts were snuggled in flannel. Brought in some tomatoes in pots and my lettuces in pots. No more frosts in the forecast for the next 10 days, so this may be it for the season. I hope!!!

We had snow showers here today. I'm impressed with my bachelor's buttons which are planted out. They're still green and haven't been covered since they outgrew their bottle.

As I write, it's a very (very!) cold 43°F here. Supposed to go down to 39°F. I'm not bringing anything in - not even the one container of zinnias that has sprouted.

I'll let y'all know tomorrow whether I'm sorry or not ...

Bachelor buttons are tough as nails. Mine all started from volunteers about 3 weeks ago. They're about 5-6 inches tall now. You will love their flowers!

I regularly get frosts late in the season, sometimes till mid may.. anything in jugs are usually fine to around 26 degrees, anything much colder though seems to sap some of the tenders..

I can tell you what they dont like, is WET cold slushly snow, which can get into the containers and kill stuff.. now that is horrendous!

I no longer bother covering the milk jugs, if you have something smaller than that, Im not certain how that would effect you. I prefer the jugs becuase of this reason among several.

guess it is too late, but Salvia are tender, so I hope you covered them.
Last nite I coverd the salvia that had been planted out, and the marigolds in their containers.
Poppies will be fine.
Tonite it is sup'd to get even colder! 34 degrees.
So I shall cover again, and by week-end sup'd to go up to 80.
Deana, I was surprised when I watched the weather this morning to see as you said that you are warmer than we are at least right now.

Yes, we have gotten some frozen "stuff" that is laying thinly on the roof and porch and creating a very thin icy shell on the outside of jugs, but the earth shows no signs of frost. I ended up not covering anything. We'll see what happened. I had just put squash in the ground, and that was my main concern. I figured that if it freezes I still have plenty of time to start more. Since the other true frosts didn't kill anything I wanted to experiment and let this night take its course. It will only warm a little today and remain overcast, so based on today's finding I might be more careful tonight.

I still don't understand why you all insisted on taking all of our snow this past winter. So very inconsiderate of you all. I think we got snow about once a month. But, at this exact time, I'm not minding that you hogged all the cold stuff!

Frost here too....this is crazy. I was potting things up in my walk in container and we had rain, snow, sleet and wind, more of the same today. Potted up perennials will go under a makeshift tent using an old swing frame and a tarp. There is no more room in the coldhouse, I did cover the jugs with my annuals, hope the jugs with the perennials were ok. Will go out and check them in a bit.

Just read that in parts of northern NY and New England a storm dropped up to 1 foot of snow!

My squash are fine. Everything else seems to be fine, too. Still not sure what to do tonight. It's supposed to be 34 again and there are no frost warnings.

Maybe I'll put mulch over the squash anyway, just to be sure.
