Witch Hazel (hamamelis) in sandy loam??

Would a witch hazel do well if it were planted in a sandy loam type soil?? The soil is slightly acidic, so the pH is idea, but will the soil retain enough moisture to keep the tree happy?? I've been told that witch hazels like moist soil, so I'm not sure if a sandy loam soil would be good for it.
