Knockout, Flower Carpet, or Easy Elegance?
Comments (8)I know a lot of people love KO, but where I live they are so ubiquitous I'm tired of them! My limited experience: I had one pink Flower Carpet, for me I was not impressed - it grew well enough, but only seemed to have one flush and then I read these roses are closely bred to rugosas, so you may not see continuous flowering as claimed. Eventually got SP'd was fed up with the thorny flowerless weediness. Easy Elegance: I was just admiring my bursting with growth own-root (from Home Depot 2 years ago) Macy's Pride and Funny Face Easy Elegance roses this morning. (Maybe all EEs are own-root). I treated these terribly the first year, left them in the original pots, they were down to a few spindly shoots. Now planted in baking sun front yard in not the greatest soil (though they did get fertilized) and they have really bushed out and shot up, with multiple buds. I do have some light black spot low down but then stupidly planted them (3) too close together, I will fix that next year. Based on this small experience I would buy more Easy Elegance tomorrow, if I could. PS. My front soil is horrible rocky clay that was amended a bit with organics, nevertheless the roses are happily sharing space with a Japanese spirea and some other shrubs. Easy care bushes!...See MoreFavorite Easy Elegance Rose
Comments (27)I love EE roses! I plan to add more next year. I have the following EE roses currently in my gardens: 3 Paint the Town (+2 more this year) 3 Funny Face (planted 2004-2005) 3 Sunrise Sunset (planted 2006 and +2 more this year) 1 Music Box (planted this year) 2 Little Mischief (planted this year) 2 My Girl (planted last year) This is a picture of my round bed. In the background (sort of) are 2 My Girl and in front are 2 Paint the Town. I do little winter protection other than rake leaves around them in fall. Usually some cane die back, but not a lot most years. This past winter was warm and I had no die back. As you can see My Girl has gotten quite large! She is in constant bloom....See MoreJust got rid of a 'Sunny' Knockout Rose
Comments (8)I like sunny Knockout. Sure there are better roses but it grows well for me and always gets a comment from those going through my garden. So far it appears to be more disease resistant than most roses and it's always in bloom even though the blooms don't last long. But then, I grow roses for garden viewing and not for cutting or arranging. As with the other Knock Outs, I recommend them to first time rose growers to get their feet wet. Successfully growing them usually leads to expanding to other types. For this reason I believe the Knock Out line has helped the hobby. A neighbor who "can't grow roses," after seeing mine and asking questions, picked up one and now is growing a few hybrid teas and other shrub roses. She gained enough confidence with the Knock Out she tried others and now has learned "She can grow roses." For no other reason Knock Out has earned a place in the family of roses....See MoreRoses - Flower Carpets or Knock Outs in 6a
Comments (11)I have Rainbow Knock Out roses, they repeat really fast, but they can get a little mildew from time to time, I grow them under the pine trees, they might be different if they are under full sun. I also have a couple of Sunny Knock out, Blushing Knock Out. The most I have are single red and double pink Knockouts for their strong colors. I have never paid attention on how long one single Rainbow KO bloom last, when they are in bloom, they are covered with thousands of little blooms, and their colors change from light pink to white, not brown in my garden. I don't remember dark pink Carpet roses have black spots, my other light pink/ white Carpet roses might have some black spots, will have to pay more attention to them this year....See Morewhaas_5a
