Planted a 4 inch rose twig in garden in summer, what to do next?

Hi,

Planted a 4 inch rose twig in the garden this summer and it came out very well. It got lots of beautiful red leaves, but no branches. The height is still 4-5 inches above the garden soil. Now, in the zone 5 how can I save this tiny rose plant.

Should I put a soda bottle on top of it, mulch 4-5 inches on the top covering the plant or leave it as it is?

Please suggest.

Here is a link that might be useful: pic of the rose plant.
