I don't know how it compares to Sutter's Gold, but Folklore is good for me. It's a big one, and the flowers last well.

Serena, you might look into Sheila's Perfume. She is about 6 feet tall, lots of blooms, disease resistant, and a frequent bloomer.

Thanks so much everyone! All 4 roses are excellent suggestions in terms of beauty. Before I had the chance to go online today, I still have severe carpal syndrome aftermath, LOL, I was about to retitle my response, I MUST BE INSANE!

I went through the entire list of orange roses on HMF all 48 categories 24 entries per page last night and stayed up 'til 3:00 a.m. LOL! And dumb-b*** me even tried looking up separate Google details for each rose that got my interest. Many had missing details-height, etc. so I had to triple search. I also found the Victor Borge rose and Voodoo. Voodoo grows tall but is only rated zone 7 and that is playing with fire. But from what I read it is indeed a tall rose. Has anyone ever dared to try to grow it in zone 5/6? I was thinking of playing with fire because in many sites the Folklore is rated only zone 7 but the cold-zoner Canadians looooove this rose and am hoping that Voodoo will also be like Folklore in being a strong rose. About Victor Borge, I I remember a long time ago a kind forumer was comparing Catherine Deneuve with Victor Borge when I asked about the Deneuve Rose--the only problem with Victor is that it may not be tall enough against Lincoln (it has a shorter 4' rating? and just 2 vendors rated it strong perfume and 2 other vendors light perfume only).

Tahitian S. can grow tall too in Kansas. I didn't think of it until DianeJ mentioned it. It is a safe bet. I saw it at Loose Park Rose Garden.

Curlydoc Sheila's Perfume is gorgeous for a floribunda. But All my roses always turn into huge cabbage flowers so that is why I have to be sure to only get hybrid teas so that they can maintain as pretty/spiraling of a shape as possible otherwise the flowers become messy. Grandifloras like my hated Queen Elizabeth become messy so I stay away from those roses because of my inability to grow them properly.

I don't know if it's tall enough for you, or if it's a color you'll care for (it tends to be something one either loves or loathes with little in between), but Fragrant Cloud is definitely an orange rose. I don't know if it would be "tall" for you, but most likely it will be of at least medium height. I have an own root in zone 6 that I never protect (just the wood chip mulch the landscapers put down in the spring) & the only time I had trouble with it was in the freaky winter we had a few years ago where the temps. consistently remained in the 50's & 60's until a sudden brutal cold snap in early Feb. That killed it to the ground but since it was own root it's come back.

(A normal winter here has temps. in Dec. in the low 40's or 30's during the day (except during a cold snap), and in the upper 20's or low 30's during the day in Jan. (except during a cold snap, where the high can be 10 for most of a week).)

Tropicana is another famous orange rose. I don't have personal experience with it, but I know it has a reputation for growing tall when it's happy. As long as it was own root (so it came back true if it died to the roots) I wouldn't be reluctant to grow Tropicana if I had my own yard and enough sun to make it worthwhile.

Both are strongly fragrant orange roses.

Thanks for the suggestion York_Rose. I actually have Fragrant Cloud, I enjoy the color but it is too red for the spot I am looking for. I call it Spanish Flamenco Red (scarlet-orange) instead of a true orange that has blends and gradations in it. It is a lively rose, but LOL! it is also a hybrid tea which loves being a giant cabbage flower instead of a spiraling hybrid tea...At first, I thought it was just my clumsy growing but indeed at the Kansas nurseries, the FC too looks pouffy-moppy.

How about Octoberfest it is tall and the colors are very striking and it has nice form as well, also Cary Grant smells wonderful and the form is striking don't know the height.

Wow, SuzQ, both roses are stunning, has the perfect form. And both open everyone's eyes to some more beautiful oranges!

I wish Octoberfest had fragrance (fragrance is always my top priority), but Cary Grant has both the stunning beauty and the fragrance. I just have to keep checking around for the height as well.

For everyone else I forgot to say that Folklore I had already ordered to replace one of my Sutter's Gold (but it always helps to reconfirm that I made the right choice). The other is for the undecided orange blend rose.

many good suggestions - but consider your climate too! not many hybrid teas do well or will have much cane freeze back right?
Victor borge is one of the better orange blends HTs with a good fragrance. named after a Danish American entertainer.
I do however find that Flora Danica is a better and hardier HT among the orange blends. Sometimes it is clear orange but most it fades a bit towards yellow and pink - but it has a very nice bloom form, and is good for cutting and the develowed flower are sometimes quartered - and it has a very nice sweet rose fragrance that to my nose is stronger than Victor Borges. It is also developed for northen climates like most other Poulsen Roses. Another Poulsen rose worth looking into is Troika Syn. Royal Dane. It has become a clasissic over here in Europe and has a strong fruity fragrance. I would consider Flora Danica and Troika too. Troica grow tallest. Alexander has the perfect colour, but is not very fragrant, but one of the best orange HTs. So many choices huh? Please check the pictures fo the 3 roses on HMF. Good luck with your choice. Folklore is perfectly hardy here in Wisconsin so don't worry about that one. HMF is much too conservative in their zone ratings so I have learned not to pay any attention to them. The only time I worry is if another forum member says that they tried the rose and it died for them over the winter.

Cup shaped roses wooooow! that is a wonderful collection to consider for my other orange blend rose. Flora Danika and Troika/Royal Dane seem super great roses- I still haven't found vendors for them in the U.S. but I will keep looking. I may have to try a Canadian Vendor. Cary Grant is still a strong contender too, but there's always something more exotic and mysterious to get a "European Rose" LOL! My garden has so many typical American roses LOL! I mean Lincoln, Tiffany and Climbing America aren't exactly the wow, what is that! kind of rose....LOL! that is one of the reasons why I didn't get Just Joey (nothing to do with this orange post)-such a beautiful rose but it's grown EVERYWHERE!

The amount of each roses fragrance is quite variable. Air temp, moisture/humidity, and even time of day play major factors with fragrance in roses. A rose that is super smelly right now may be almost scentless 12 hours later.

Depending upon just how orange you want the flowers to be, you might also consider the Tantau rose Whiskey Mac. When the weather is cooler its pink tones become more prominent and that changes it from a "yellow blend" into an orange one (or so was my experience growing it in the Philadelphia area).
