My Top 1/2 Dozen Thornless Roses
Comments (55)Well, if nobody wants to talk about Caroline Hairston (pouting, LOL) then can you tell me more about Mier y Teran and/or Star of the Republic? I know what ARE says about both of them, and I own them both but they're too young to be doing much yet and despite many visits to the south ARE, I haven't been able to catch one of these guys in bloom or even large enough in their pots to give me a better feel for the growth habit. From description, I envision Star of the Republic being kind of big and sprawly, maybe looking good just let "fountain" and Mier y Teran being great for a pillar. Has anyone tried SotR on a pillar? Does anyone have pics of the blooms of either? Any input is welcome....I'm doing garden placements this week. Thanks, Debra...See MoreA Dozen Kordes Roses
Comments (43)I don't know if she's Winter hardy for you but Beverly is a beautiful Kordes ht, she smells wonderful, repeats frequently, and is fairly low thorned. I have almost all of the Fairytale roses (Cinderella, Lions, Brothers Grimm, Sisters, Pomponella, Golden, Floral, Kosmos, and Red Riding Hood)and they are disease resistant but they are not very fragrant(if at all)and they are VERY THORNY for the most part. They do not repeat as well as I would like considering they get big and thorny and have no fragrance. It could be that they're better in a colder climate. They have been a let-down as I planted them to replace Knock-outs but they get just as big, have no scent, are just as thorny (or thornier!), but do not repeat near as well. Of the Fairy tales I like Golden FT, Brothers Grimm FT, Pomponella and Red Riding Hood the best. I also have Sunny Sky, Winter Sun, South Africa, Buxom Beauty, Sweet Beauty, Grande Amour, Eliza, Poseidon, Solero and Zaide. Buxom Beauty is the most beautiful rose I own, but she's a little slow to repeat. They are all new last year, and this Summer has been Hell on them (100 degree plus temps for months and major drought). I am hoping the repeat will be better next year. All are very disease resistant so far and I very seldom spray (maybe once or twice in early Spring). I cram all of my roses into a too-small space and let them fight it out so I don't exactly have ideal growing conditions esp. in the hot, humid South. The new Austin rose, Lady of Shallott, is also very disease resistant, fairly low thorned and beautiful:)...See MoreNEW: dozen dozen tomato swap
Comments (117)First off, I think it is great what you are doing for Grovespirit and by all means send me an address. Secondly, I apologize for the mix up on sending two of yours back DirtDiggin. Now to get you squared away, I understand that a player is sending you Marianna's Peace, if not I can send you some. Siberia I do not have extra nor Stump of the World. I sent you extra CP because you wanted to try Ted's. Since Ron did not send the pastes, I substituted different CP seeds from different growers (Dan's, mine, trades). I then added Siberian, Roma and Sub Arctic Plenty because of there not being any SIBERIA. I then added what I thought were extras; Caro Rich and Yellow Perfection from Seeds of Change. That makes six of your request. That equals 15 if I count right, plus two of yours were mistakenly added. So did you get 17 or...??? Not counting yours..? Players may be able to help with what you are missing....please keep me informed. I just redid my inventory list and when I get that updated, I will send my page link and you can pick from a BIG list of extras I have. By the way, players who sent only a Dozen Dozen received more back. I did not sort players by how many packs sent...giving is just that-giving. If you got the list of what every player received...you would note that many got way more than they sent and that I certainly sent out...well let's just say that I didn't even keep track but I did send many packs that I took in trade to fill in the niches and even sent some 45TH Parallel packs of fresh seed from growouts. If you got my BearClaw you got the second place seeds from the contest over in I Dig :) Just let me know what I can do to make it right....See MoreOmg I have to rent !!!! Comments (8)I think you did the best thing you could by trying to water it in to dilute it more but alas have no experience with a detergent water accident. I will say I accidentally sprayed roundup on a few things and while the foliage was ugly for a while it still didn't completely die so I would think your plants may be ok in the end and grow out the damage if any. Roses are extremely resilient plants I must say! What detergent was it? The reason I ask is because I had a rose planted in a spot next to my driveway where water would pool and stand around it and that water was from car washes and the plant is perfectly fine. It took a whole summer of this water and abuse. The rose is actually in my "is this Westerland" post and is doing quite alright despite the abuse!...See MoreRelated Professionals
