Supports for semi-climbing roses

I'm putting another section of old and Austin roses into my garden. This time I'm thinking vertical! I'd like to grow some of the larger Austins that want to climb up supports - an obelisk or tuteur. How do I do it? Do I plant the rose in front of it, next to it, inside it? If I get a big enough one (ok, if I build one) can I put one on either side and hope they weave together? I'm not really looking to have them traditionally climb, more like support a really large bush that would otherwise be a lanky mess. Two I'm eager to try are Abraham Darby and Reines de Violettes. I also have a modern Enchanted Evening that needs the same treatment (now 6" tall with lanky canes but completely healthy and the most lovely blooms).

Please let me know how you've done it. Any pictures would be so helpful!!

Thanks,

Debbie
