If the canes are black, the bush is most likely dead. Round Up is absorbed by the leaves and travels to the roots. Once the roots die or are weakened severely, your bush is dead. They've also developed a new formula that is advertised to control weeds for the whole season. It places a barrier on the soil that prevents weeds from germinating.
Glyphosate, the ingredient that's absorbed by the leaves, degrades quickly. The added ingredient that forms the barrier doesn't. It's there all summer.
They have another stronger formula that gets through the waxy coating on hard to kill weeds like poison Ivy and tough brush.
The product I use was supplied to me by a lawn care company. It's effective against weeds but seems not to bother my roses.

It appears to be the top of the bush mostly, and the leaves more-so than the canes but it just happened Sunday...4 days in we are in bad shape....I will watch it. I was wondering too, would pruning the buses affected back help prevent it from spreading?

If Roundup was applied four or five days ago, then these plants are almost certainly dead, with no hope of recovery. Its too late to prune off affected growth. I suggest you bring your neighbor over to see the damage hes done and tell him you will be expecting him to fork over whatever $$$ it costs to replace them.

Won't hurt to cut back the affected bushes. All you'll waste is some time. Who knows, you might salvage some?
The Glyphosate travels slower through shrubs than grass and weeds so it may not be too late. You can only cut back and hope.

What about watering them heavy? Could that help delute it?

Watering to dilute it would have helped when first applied but now it'll do very little. At this stage, it won't hurt or help. Now all you can do is wait or replace.

He didn't mean to spray them, but he was using a strong mixture and there was a bit of wind. A couple of them are worse off than others. I washed them down really well and then watered the heck out of them. I will try to prune this morning as I have a bit of time but I am not holding out much hope. I have duplicates of most of the ones he damaged, but it now appears Julia Child was also a victim.....at least nothing he got was hard to replace. I have my September Morn and Blue Bayou in a different area of the yard and those two are hard to come by.......I will show him the next time I see him. I think he is going to feel bad, but MAN he could have told me he was spraying!~

I have had round up spray drift in from 2 yards away. The stuff can really carry on a light breeze.

If you ask him to give you money for the ones he killed, he WILL be more careful next time, even if he never gives you the $$. He won't want that issue to come up again. "I didn't mean to" is just another way of saying "I don't care." Politely ask for the money, once.

Dittos on what Kathy said. Btw, Blue Bayou is currently available on Palatine's website. It would be multiflora rootstock; don't know if that works in your zone.

This guy has to realize that it's 100 times easier to take 30 seconds to tell you what he's doing instead of 3 weeks fixing the mistake. He won't realize it unless he's actively participating in the "fixing" part, though.

When I think that a rose might live, I just nurse it along for about a year, and it dies. The only thing to do when you are spraying is to cut the branches that you hit, and do it immediately.I have had problems with climbers that have long branches that are under the mulch. I just run for the clippers.

I wish I had done it on Monday, but HONESTLY I assumed he had NOT sprayed that area as there is nothing along the fenceline but dirt. I wont even let the yard guy use any sprays in the paring lot.....I have pruned them back and tossed two ow....one of my tree roses is also showing signs of damage and it halfway across the property.
