Or a leucophyllum. I have a spot on the south side of the house which is hades on earth this time of year. Of course, it is THE only spot I have to put my plant of Annie Laurie McDowell. There is direct sun from about 9:30 AM until after 5 PM and with the angle of the sun now, it reflects directly off the mirrored living room window a story above it. The spot is about ten feet away from the house wall, against the top of a newer retaining wall with a wire fence above it. I have the Atmore Lamarque, Reve d'Or and Annie. I planted tomatoes there last summer and this window actually cooked them to death.

I've temporarily shaded Annie with canned plants. The awful cat here died last weekend and he's buried between the two upper climbers with a five gallon leucophyllum planted directly over him. It is LOVING the heat and tremendous reflected light from that mirrored window! It was flowering before, but now it is paved with its lavender flowers. Kim

I have ORG in a very shady spot underneath a redbud with mostly morning sun. It took off like wildfire and in two years is happily climbing the tree. It may not bloom as much as it could--it is supposed to be "continuous," and mine isn't, but it is a bit early to say, as so much energy seems to have gone into just growing. I had a great spring flush and off&on since then. It is also very blackspot resistant!

They will fry in extreme sun exposures. Kim

I really like the look of the leukophylum. That area could really use a colorful blooming plant. Of course I won't have a dead cat to put beneath it!

catsrose, that's good news for me ORG Renae will only get 4 hours sun when it's not foggy.

Diane, I'm still of two minds whether to cancel my ORG Renae or not. I just really don't have a good spot for it. If I do cancel it I'll post my decision so that if someone else would really like to have it they can grab it up.

I've redoubled efforts to try and make something of a success of Bon Silene which is growing in the hot spot where Kim convinced me that ORG Renae won't do well. It's become something of a challenge and we'll see what happens. But, we'll still have Annie Laurie McDonell to compare. (I'm hoping it's you who's ordered her).

Yes I just got a 1gal AL McDowell from LongAgo Roses and I have 2 reserved from Burlington for next spring. I'll post a photo when the 3 buds bloom then will disbud after that til the plant grows.

My ORG Renae arrived with my Vintage order and have my fingers crossed because it's very small so am nervous it will make it. I hate to say this but I feel that Vintage and some other growers send out plants that are way too young. The Paul's Early Blush I received is only a few inches high and what few leaves there are have blackspot so really don't know what's going to happen. Sorry I got a bit off topic but needed to vent.

Diane, I had the same problem from another nursery about teeny plants and was not happy. Chaucer died down completely except for a tiny side shoot that I've been trying to encourage to grow. In two or three years it might be a regular rose if it hasn't died long before then. Kaiserin Auguste Viktoria actually did die.

The blackspot in my experience disappears and is caused by being in the shipping container. I'd leave them in their pots in dappled shade for a week to recover and then perhaps pot them on to a one-gallon size. I hardly ever take my good advice and after a week usually put them in the ground with a thorny cane barrier around them, and lose very few this way. In my climate I usually ask for the roses to be shipped a few months later; I'm not getting my Vintage order until November and hopefully by that time the plants will have grown a little more. I hope yours do well in spite of their size.

Thanks Ingrid. I didn't want to delay shipping any longer since several of the roses (2 Gallicas) had been in bands a long time and I was afraid of stressing them too much. I notified Gita and she was kind enough to rectify with a plant of Mme. Louise Leveque from the newest release so am happy now. I'll try and nurse Paul's Early Blush and see what happens.

I always pot up my bands into 1 or 2 gallons and grow them on. I can't imagine bands being able to survive my benign neglect for very long so they at least have a fighting chance with a larger root ball.
