Zyperisis, it's Serena, LOL! not sargeant Ser-----aaaaaack! hee-hee! for me, J&P has been very! reliable. So long as you order for next Spring and not late order shipping you should be fine. I think they have been trying very hard this year to improve their customer relations especially after getting some negative press here I suppose, lol! but seriously all the things I've ordered from them have turned out to be very strong healthy and viable and! decently shipped, never had any broken canes, etc. I have Aromatherapy, Fragrant Cloud and Gemini. If I had to order from them I would. They are also now going the own-root way. I still would order from RU simply because I'm loyal to specialized nurseries, but if RU had none of the roses and J&P did, yes, I would order from them again.

Fragrance in roses is not only highly subjective in a person to person sense, it is also highly dependent on a variety of factors -- cultural and environmental. No one grows Gemini for its fragrance. They grow it for its health and its beauty of form, its substance & its color. If anyone can detect a strong fragrance, then that's a bonus most of us are denied. Gemini is Gemini -- there's no fragrant/unfragrant division.

Jax, in another forum Serena posted that her Gemini was fragrant and that she must have gotten one that was from a strong line of fragrant Gemini's. I just thought I would ask where to get it so maybe I would get a fragrant one.

Good luck, there might be a faint fragrance, but nothing I would write home about, and each of my two were purchased from different sources. At no time has anyone in these parts reported Gemini as "fragrant." Secret, yes. Good luck.

Sorry, Zyperiris. Looks like I either got a sport version of Gemini, unlike everyone else. I could swear mine has a very sweet wonderful fragrance, it even outdoes my Lincoln just when it's in bud (but of course Lincoln outdoes all my roses once its fully bloomed). But perhaps my Gemini got its Anne Morrow Lindbergh strain which does! have strooong fragrance. Here is Anne Morrow Lindbergh and here is my Gemini. As you can see the blooms look identical. Perhaps this is why my Gemini is so fragrant???? But yes, I think the others are right. My Gemini is either a "fragrance sport" or my nose is just ultra sensitive but I argue the case in that I know what a flat, unscented rose is like. 3 out of my neighbors roses are very "unscented".

Not much fragrance to my 'Gemini', but I love it anyway.

I have two Geminis from different sources and neither is really fragrant.
However, like Serena's fragarant Gemini which would be very unusual, I have a Moonstone bush that when I cut roses to put in a vase they develop a very strong sweet fragrance that is very unusual as well. I don't know why, I just accept it and appreciate it for having it.

My Gemini has a rather nice fragrance, so Serena doesn't have the only one. Mine was a Weeks grown rose from Jungs. I recommend trying to find one blooming locally so you can smell for yourself. I was able to compare the fragrance of Secret and Gemini at the same nursery and thought Gemini has just as good of a scent and better form.

As for Double Delight, I'd get it from Heirloom or Roses Unlimited or another virus free vendor. This is one of those roses that is usually virused and is probably more disease resistant if you can find a virus free version.

In my garden, neither of my 'Anne Morrow Lindbergh' bushes produces blooms that could be described as "twins" of 'Gemini'. If the softly pastel AML can be said to closely resemble any of her progeny, it's her other very famous daughter, 'Diana, Princess of Wales'. Unfortunately, AML didn't succeed in passing on her pronounced fragrance to either of these super-star offspring . . . a bit more, perhaps, to D,PoW than to 'Gemini'.

Windeaux I am glad you are reconfirming the strong fragrance that is listed with all of Anne Morrow Lindbergh descriptions whether it's in HMF, Dave's Garden, and other sites. They always and very consistently describe the Anne Morrow Lindbergh as having a strong fragrance but AML is very rarely grown it seems so it's nice to hear a firsthand account from someone who actually does own AML. Roses definitely can range in color depending on the climate, but in the link I listed both mine and the depicted Anne Morrow Lindbergh are definite twins. If you copy and paste the link into another web window you can't distinguish the difference. They look like they came from the same bush. Here is another bloom that just opened up today. Again, the similarity.

But I often wonder-- with people you can sometimes pick up a strain from several generations back. Blue eyes where no one else in the immediate 2 generations have blue eyes. My border collie the same thing. All her siblings and parents had brown eyes; so did her grandparents; so somewhere previous to that generation one of the dogs had blue eyes. She was the only one with one blue eye and one brown eye; that sort of anomoly. I still believe sometimes one will get a genetic "skipping" of lineage with roses as well, perhaps? who knows? Athenainwi and I really lucked out.

Zyperiris, I'll be interested in what you decide. Again, with everyone else says who grows Gemini, the consensus is that Gemini is the superstar when it comes to beauty, health and form. It deserves its ARS top rank. Scent, well go with the majority that in all likelihood yours will have very little scent. And if you find one at a nursery that has a lovely scent, grab it! before anyone else finds it!!!! and snatches it away LOL! Zyperiris I can guarantee that Gemini will be a knockout! If an idiot like me can get beautiful blooms like this, you can just imagine what a trouper that Gemini is...

My gemini was not very fragrant, many think secret is very similar for look but is more fragrance.

Liane, I have to disagree. I don't think Secret looks at all! like Gemini, not one bit. Gemini has beautiful exhibition, thick petals, Secret doesn't. Secret is very low-clustered. It looks flat like a floribunda, even though it's supposed to be a hybrid tea and doesn't have that distinctive lovely spiraling of petals that Gemini has. Gemini looks like a florist's exhibition rose.

Boro, I think Raft Island is about out of roses for the year! I was there a few weekends ago! They had a great year however. I am pleased for them. I am planning on planting some Gemini in pots in the spring. I just wanted a fragrant one. I guess I will either get fragrance or not!
