Pat Austin & St. Cecelia

I have just started trying to grow roses. This year I planted an Abraham Darby, St. Cecelia, Pat Austin & Tradescant. They were all planted deep with lots of compost. The Darby I saw at a neighbor's, the others in the David Austin catalog. I suspect that buying from a catalog is like computer dating.

The Pat Austin is brilliant when it opens but most of the flowers droop, the next day pale & drooping even if it started out looking up. St. Cecelia droops way over.

The Tradescant blooms are small -- there was no indication of this in the catalog -- & in the 3rd round of blooming this summer one of the plants is producing nice red blooms that in no way resemble its previous blooms or the blooms on the others.

Suggestions, comments for a beginner?
