That's a tall order, but one rose that comes close is 'Aloha.' It also has an apricot sport, 'Dixieland Linda,' available from Ashdown Roses. The flower of 'Aloha' is rose-pink toned salmon, sometimes with mauve and magenta tones. Good ones are very beautiful and fragrant, but you get some bad flowers (deformed by cold or blighted during rainy spells).

There are a couple of excellent new climbers, 'Laguna' and 'Papi Delbard,' but I haven't heard whether they are hardy into zone 5. Most climbers are not.

'Laguna' I might just mention is as thorny as can be.

'Papi D.' is less thorny than 'Aloha.'

Another rose to consider is 'Clair Matin.' I have heard that she is hardy into z. 5. This is one of the best roses I've ever grown. She is not anxious to climb in my garden, though. Tremendous bloomer, beautiful plant, and not very thorny. Mine has been in continuous bloom for three months, less a few days, and has lots of buds coming.

I'm pretty partial to Aloha. Michael has her pluses and minuses down about like my experience. One of the main things I also like is that she is not a house eater; rather suitable for your standard modest arch. Also I've found her to have better then average disease resistance (I spray off and on)....But she is pink, so as to the apricot shades I'm surprised no one has mentioned Westerland. I don't grow her, but have heard very good things about her. Maybe she isn't winter hardy.

Compasssion is also hardy but will suffer winter cane damage as will many of those mentioned. It comes back good though.

I've grown or tried a lot of climbers and very few are hardy in z5. And the requirement about fragrance rules out many. Then after color you are left with damned few. Only one I've have might make it, Westerland or its' sport, Autumn Sunset, might do although it is only a tall shrub for me.

Illusion it the best climber I have hut it is bright red and not fragrant. Very disease resistant.

Perhaps th thing to do is to get the hardiest climber you can for your zone since the zone limits the size. Then put bushes around that are more fragrant roses or the color you like? I mean you can't just plant one, can you? ;-)

Evelyn has been a winner in my garden, but it's a shrub, and not a climber. It has wonderful fragrance like fresh peaches, and beautiful apricot blooms.

I also recommend Evelyn. It is hardy, healthy, floriferous and fragrant in zone 5a. Kathleen Harrop is a thornless climber (sport of Zéphirine Drouhin) that is marginally hardy in zone 5, but it is pink. Reine des Violettes is a thornless Hybrid Perpetual which can get tall. If you are set on an apricot rose, but not necessarily a climber, get Evelyn.

westerland comes back well for me, but i dont' think it's much of a climber in zone 5 - you could put it next to zephy thought, that would be pretty - both do well for me here
