Did anyone get anything from Vintage's recent sale?

I don't really have room for more roses... but I think before this summer is out I'll probably kill a few by accident... :)

anyway, I got:

Arcadia Louisiana Tea

--- I liked that it's listed by VG as having a rapid rebloom and a strong scent, and the pale color changing aspect is very attractive to me. So hopefully it will do well in my yard! Hopefully it will be different enough from my Mme. Berard.

But I missed out on:

LÃ¯Â¿Â½onie's Apoline (POO! this is the one I wanted the most!)

Climbing Ophelia Type

Anyone else?

Aimee, I ordered Duchess of Albany (a sport of La France) and Pretty Jessica. I'm sorry you didn't get Leonie's Apoline. I have a young plant of her from last year and maybe by next year I could send you a cutting. I don't know how well it would root but we could try.

Aw, that's sweet Ingrid! Maybe by next year I'll be a better gardener, too, and won't kill it. :> *feeling a bit bummed about this summer's stress on roses*

Most people with hobby farms around here let a local cut and bale the hay and just keep it. Or, they hire them to do it if they've got horses that can use it. It takes quite a bit of money to buy all of the equipment to deal with 14 acres, even if you're not baling hay. I have a friend who got a pretty good bargain for a 35 horse tractor, bush hog, finish mower, grader blade, box blade, etc. It still came to 40K. Adding on the hay equipment on top of that is another 10K easy. That is an expense that most city people fail to take into account when buying acreage. It's work and it doesn't take care of itself. A good portion of your time will be spent keeping opportunistic saplings cut down, and the fence in good condition, and mowing.

Where did the furnace come from? Ask him. Possible bad reasons he cannot: it's a left over unit from previous job, and has actually been in his inventory for some time. And he doesn't want you to know this. Because that means it wasn't selected for your needs, but for his. It is a scratch/dent or closeout from the distributor and non returnable. He got a good deal, and doesn't want you to know how cheap it was. For any of these reasons, he may be reluctant to show you the receipt. Neither of these are that bad, but they may not be what you ultimately would want. If one of these turns out to be the case, I think it may indicate that he was trying to get you the best price on the furnace, and that he based his work to you on this good deal on the equipment. So if you want something else, get something else, but be prepared to pay the fair difference. If you think he would respond, then consider telling him that you understand he based his price to you on the cost he could get for the furnace he chose, and the time and work and accessories it would take to correctly install it. Say you want something else, and if he will be up front with you about the costs. Use this example. If you had asked for a standard dishwasher, and then said you wanted a better one with a custom front, you would expect that he couldn't use the "builder's special deal" dishwasher to do this. The fact remains that it came from somewhere, and that distributor or source should at least be able to find out, based on serial number of the unit, when it was sold to him and then backtrack into their accounting records and get a receipt.

Substance, rarity, age and condition are pretty much what determine the value of any object not a new one. And, it's sort of a combination of all 4, not just one....something can be quite old but because there are a bunch of them around in better condition, it is of little to no value.....while, something else may be much 'younger', but of lovely quality and somewhat rare, so it has a much greater value. Unfortunately, lots of folks think "it's old, so it's valuable"....not so, I'm afraid...and, of course, the definition of 'old' is even debatable...what IS old? There are lots of things to consider when dealing with antiques, or potential antiques...that's part of what makes if fun.

Remodeling In-laws' kitchen for sale...Did I miss anything?

It is definitely the right thing to update the kitchen to sell. We did exactly that last spring for an elderly relative who needed to move. The house sold in 10 days for near asking price (the highest so far in the neighborhood) and the buyers mentioned the kitchen as a major selling point. We got great feedback on the kitchen and bathrooms which were also updated with the same cabinets. I used an OTR microwave as there really weren't any good options. There was no negative feedback on that at all. Because we did much of the work ourselves and shopped around for the rest it didn't cost that much and made all the difference in selling or not. There's no doubt that we received a good return on the investment. So here it is....The Kitchen That Sold the House in 10 Days!

I ordered Leonie's Apoline and Mme. Pierre Euler. I heard that they received my order but not if I got the two I wanted or if they are sending one or two of the alternates. Do you know when they let you know?

I had my eye on both of these but had decided not to pay for custom rooting. When they both came available at the same time, I just HAD to order.

We went away that weekend so I blew it. Aimee, I wonder if Climbing Madame Butterfly is available. It's just as nice as Climbing Ophelia Type.

gardennatlanta - I JUST heard back, I think they got really swamped, so just wait I guess...? Mme. Pierre Euler is lovely too! nice choice!

mendocino- thanks for the rec, I don't think that one is either, are they both at san jose heritage...? maybe I can go again this fall and look. Though vintage lists CL ophelia type as having a stronger rebloom and they look a bit different from limited photos. mostly I just was interested since I thought it was lovely at heritage. I don't really have a spot for another climber, so maybe it's for the best. :3

Thanks, Aimee. I'm getting a little nervous because when I looked back at the site a day or two after ordering, the ones I ordered are listed as "custom root" as are most of the alternates. I did put a couple of alternates that I'm not all that excited about that are still listed as available but to be honest, I'd be disappointed if I didn't get at least ONE of the ones I ordered.

I just got an email from Vintage. I will be receiving Mme Pierre Euler (one I've been wanting for a long time) and Legacy of Elizabeth Moore--one of my alternates. Having never seen a picture of LoEM, it was a bit of a gamble ordering one but HMF lists vintage as the only seller and I liked their description. I'll let you know what I think after it grows up.

Didn't get Leonie's Apoline--bummer. Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open and hope to get one someday.

Gardennatlanta, be sure to go back to Vintage's site, go to Leonie's Apoline, and click on the link that says "Notify me when this rose is available". It works like a charm. As soon as a rose becomes available again (say someone cancels an order or doesn't pay for an order that has been picked), you will get an email. If you still want it and you act quickly, it could easily be yours. I got the HT Kurshinju that way a few months ago, and I am so glad I did.

Thanks landperson! I'm still looking for Leonie's Apoline, Anna Jung and Mme. E Souffrain, (which I missed out on Vintage sales with) I hadn't noticed that option before, so I'll do that.
