Medallion is the only one I regret losing, but it suffers in our intense heat/humidity.

Mine are all new to me this year with the exception of three. Of the "old" ones I am at the very least moving Zepherine Drouihin, maybe it's getting the SP. The foliage and growth is out of control, but very few flowers and lots of PM.

Of the new ones I gave away :

Those first three were doing okay, but not what I wanted in my garden since I am limited in space. The YD was looking great and doing well, but the blooms were so very similiar to Chihuly in color, and I am not a real fan of orange, I gave it away at the Master Gardener booth at the fair.

Likely to be SP-ed unless someone gives a real convincing argument against it:

2 Ebb Tides planted as bareroots. They are just icky plants, even though the blloms CAN be sensationally fragranced.

MAYBE!!!! I LOVE the flower on this plant, one of my favorites. But the bush is struggling a bit, and I did treat for PM. I already have a prejudice for this rose, and have broken my own low-maintenance rules in order to give it a best shot.

These two showed outstanding vigor and growth, clean (or nearly) foliage and tons of flowers, even as first-year plantings. I do have several others that are very close runners-up, but these two are just clear stand-outs.

One of my Black Magics died. I'm not sure what happened as the second one is huge and doing really well. But for some reason the other one just stopped growing and turned brown. The roots looked fine when I dug it up and it didn't have any canker so I don't know what went wrong. Paradise played dead for a long time and was about to be replaced until a few weeks ago when it started growing and bloomed. Oranges and Lemons had canker and looked dead for a long time but is now growing a bit. I'm hoping it isn't rootstock. I'll have to wait until it blooms.

I decided not to SP anything this year as most of my roses aren't old enough to really tell much about them yet. Paradise might be replaced with a better version from Palatine, and a I have a couple of under-performers on a watch list, but I won't do anything until next year.

Just a mini - 'Sunrise'. It was in my potager taking up too much space. It didn't want to be a mini anymore. ; )

My two 'Lemon Drop' may be on the list. They just haven't bloomed much this year - too much shade, I suspect. I'll move them in the fall and see if they do better in a new location. If not, they're out of here!

Oh, mexicanhat--are you sure you want to get rid of Molineux and Gold Medal? They are both marvelous roses--Molineux especially. I have to admit my 3 Molineux didn't do that great the first year or two, but they are in their 3rd year now and I was just admiring them this morning--so floriferous!

As for the ones I lost or spaded or am giving away:

Mayflower--just doesn't want to bloom. Gets buds but they won't open without help from me. This has been going on for 3 seasons. Goodby--I've had it.

Crimson Bouquet--not enough room where it is planted (my rugosa finally started to really grow--and spread!) and I don't have any other spot for it. Giving it to my neighbor's daughter. Besides, it wants to be sprayed more than I like to spray.

Elina and Mrs. John Laing--about broke my heart. They were new bareroots that ended up soaking in a bucket too long (I guess) due to weather, etc. Two in the batch made it and are blooming so beautifully right now, but the other two made a futile attempt to grow in the spring and then promptly died. Will replace them--they are both gorgeous.

That's it--but I only grow 64 roses (compared to the hundreds some of you grow--LOL).

Great Ormond Street - weak, spindly growth and yellow flowers that faded to a dirty white almost instantly.

Wild Thing - Short, stunted, PM disaster, even with spraying.

Dublin - Molineaux bloomed it's heart out this Spring in an incredible, dazzling flush, and now it looks so sad.

I think it just bloomed 'too hard'. How's that for a dumb reason to get rid of it? :-)

Maybe it should be given a chance in the ground.

I had to SP or give away a rose for every one I planted, since I don't have the room or the strength to add any more to my garden. It was hard, though, because I really wanted to keep many of them. But, I have about 200 large roses and 50 minis, and know I can't handle more. Fortunately, I have a lot of neighbors and garden club members who will take the ones I don't want. I only give them ones that are good garden roses and won't be big problems for them.

So, as you can see, my garden is not the best place for florist roses. I still have a few, but not many. Also, I am vowing not to keep a rose that no matter what I try, I can't keep the thrip damage away!

So - did I meet my goal, and only add a rose for everyone I SP's?? I did fine until recently (dang you, Heirloom roses sales!) and now I have a bit of a pot ghetto. And, I don't have any that I want to SP or give away right now. We'll see how they are doing by next Spring!

Fragrant Cloud from Palatine. Right after I potted it up the canes turned black for no apparent reason. New one is coming next spring.

Sequoia Twist from Sequoia Nursery. This one still has me scratching my head. Although it was slower than the rest of my Moore Roses to develop I swear I went out there one day and it small but happy, even had a few buds on it. Fast forward two days, deader than a doornail. I was not a happy camper. I'm hoping to get a couple more from Nor'East this fall.

At the top of the SP list is Roemer's Hip Happy. Although new this year from Antique Rose Emporium it has been a mildewy beast the whole season long. I'm going to give it one more chance by moving it this fall. It I see mildew next spring it will be adios RHH.

I forgot that I SP-ed a Knockout rose. It grew like crap, was a stingy bloomer, and just taking up prime real estate. I don't regret it one bit.

On my list of what has died is

Sonia(body bag)- bloomed beautiful and then turned blcak and died

Chigago Peace(body bag)- Turned black the day after it was planted

The Fairy(potted)- never thrived and slowly went down hill to it's death

Liberty bell(potted)- Died before it could be planted.

On the possible Sp list is

Dream weaver- although it's blooming nicely, I just don't know if I like it enough to keep it.

White American Beauty- Way too much black spot and not enough blooms

Cherries n cream- Seems to be fighting for it's life, we shall see.

One rose that is on the possible giving away list is David Austin's Sweet Juliet. She is own root and has beautiful smelly blooms but she is stingy with them. Very little if any BS at all.

I'm through with David Austins, except for Evelyn, which is tough and a good bloomer. A nurseryman I know put it best: in this area, Austins get twice as big and bloom half as much as they are predicted to do.
The Jackson-Perkins roses rapidly die of homesickness for the Pacific northwest, so I don't buy those any more.
I live ten minutes away from the Antique Rose Emporium, but it seems like they're always out of whatever it is I'm after.
Leonidas is on the counting-down to shovel time list.
I sure like Weeks roses for this area, though. I don't know where they're grown, but that is probably a big factor.

I'd have to get out my notes to see what I gave away this spring. The one I remember the most was Leading Lady. It was one of the quickest turn arounds ever. I received it with 4 blooms on it. They bloomed at various times and after the 4th bloom (maybe 3 weeks after I got it) I gave it away. I took a picture of the bloom so I would remember later why I gave it away. This is how the bloom appeared on it's 2nd day after opening in our cool spring weather:

Unfortunately one of my Secret Garden Noisettes died and the other was eaten by bunnies/squirrels. Mmr. Jules Gravereaux never grew so she's gone. Rosette Delizy died when I accidentally watered her all night long. At this point I don't know whether some others may not make it through the summer. I haven't shovel pruned anything this year and don't plan on doing so. I'm giving everything at least another year to prove its worth

Lost an own-root plant of Julia Child which was going backwards in the pot ghetto; soon as I noticed I put her in the ground. Too late. Happened so quickly I concluded I just got a bad plant, which is really rare with own-roots. I put Ebbtide in her place which is very slow to take off; had hoped for a nice shrubby little bush. I'll give it another year.

I will SP with a vengeance next Spring. Moved 24 rose bushes from TX to WA. They grew like monsters and some I don't recognise like Sweet Surrender and Perfume Delight.
HT's that look like Floribundas and have tiny roses with 10 buds on a branch. Culture shock maybe, but not to be tolerated.

Just today I sp'ed Festival Fanfare. It was supposed to be a striped sport of Fred Loads, but I have not seen a stripe now in two years!

Died on their own: Soroptimist International, Marie Pavie, Honey Perfume, and three tree roses.

I purposefully killed: Out of Yesteryear, Touch of Class, Joseph's Coat, Louise Odier, and Fourth of July.

I am getting ruthless in the garden these days.

I lost Denver's Dream (mini) this spring; it came up from the roots, and then got killed back twice before dying. It went in last fall, and was weak from spider mites. It looks really pretty in pictures, though...anyone grow this? Should I replace it?
I may have to SP Marco Polo. It was in bloom when we bought it last fall, had lovely bright yellow flowers. This year its blooms have been lighter yellow, and look blown by the time they're fully open. Also, it put on many blooms, and maybe 1 didn't have a big fat vegetative center. However, it smells DIVINE. So I'll give it another year.

I have a Denver Dream and it has never taken off. It nearly died the first winter - then came back from the roots. I moved it to what I thought was a better spot - and it has stayed teeny tiny but it does put on a few blooms. It is not a vigorous grower for me.
