I think you could probably get away with moving him now if you did it very soon. You would also want to water very well the day before and take the largest clump of dirt you can manage. Try to not break apart the dirt ball and keep him well watered once replanted. If he is going into a spot with hot afternoon sum some temporary shade would really help as well.

I prefer to move in the spring when they are still dormant but that is tricky sometimes as you wait and wait for the ground to thaw and then quickly try to get all the moves done before they break dormancy.

I have had good results with planting &/or moving right up until mid August at about the latest.

As far as Quadra, you will love this one. Height is about 6' and repeat is good (for an explorer ;-)) if you feed him well. The bloom colour and form are wonderful.

How far from trellis??? maybe someone else can give you a proper answer. I'm afraid I cram them in wherever I can, I have a some climbers in a bed that is only about 12" wide. I just have to train/prune based on available space, and concentrate on going for width.

It's much, much easier on the plant to move it during dormancy, and you seem to have no urgent reason to move it now.

I don't have good luck moving things now or in the fall. I
still do it sometimes, but if I can, I wait until spring.
By the way, My William Baffin has been 1' from my foundation
for years!! Good thing I don't mind training the canes!

If you move it now or in the fall try to find a cooler cloudy or rainy day and like shootingstar said make sure to water well before and after moving. I've moved roses any time I've felt like it and my first loss was early this summer. The poor thing fried the hot sunny day I moved it.
Also, it seems that nursery purchased potted roses are easier to move for me since the roots take a while to grow into surrounding soil. Bare root planted roses quickly grow their roots into the surrounding soil. Does that make sense? If you planted him bare root it may be better to wait until early spring..

Btw - I've planted and moved roses around up until mid October with no problems.

I'm thinking maybe I'll wait and see how I feel about it this spring. Maybe it won't be a problem being so close to the house after all. I've seen some monster Baffins around my neighborhood and started fearing the worst. I suppose I could always prune it back hard if the growth becomes too unruly.

You will be ok. Just prune it hard on the side against your house. I say that because a lady not far from us
has one just a few feet away from hers. You would have
to see this thing to believe it.

I went to Great Lakes Roses to get mine. He had them growing in his own yard. I knew then it was going to
be huge.

So, my DW planted it right in the middle of my back yard.
(without anything around it) I hope it gets as big as a Redwood. Good Luck on yours.

I got one from Lowes last year for $6.49 and like you did not realize how HUGE it would get. I planted it real close to the road and just do like was said, prune it back because at least mine is a fast grower. Unfornatelt I also planted a carpet rose too close to it, so this winter while it is dormant I have to move the carpet rose.. We call mine Mr. Bill and he is one of my favorites!

I love my Big Billy. In my first garden he got huge, he was planted on the back corner of my house and had lots of room to grow. In my new garden I have him planted about a foot away from my chain link fence so that he can someday cover a large area of the fence.

I also used to have Quadra. He will take up alot of room also, a beautiful rose worth growing in your zone though, just give them both some elbow room and you will be well rewarded.

I find it much easier to move a rose in the early spring. As soon as you can get your shovel in the ground. The roses don't even realize they have been moved.
