Aren't the Hybrid Spinossissimas pretty hardy (like, into zone 4)?

I'm not sure about Hybrid Musks in zone 5. IIRC at least some of them may be too tender for that winter. I also have doubts about the Bourbons.

Of the Pemberton Hybrid Musks I grow Felicia and Daphne. Felicia forms a small shrub of 2 X 2. The repeat bloom is very good. Daphne seems to want to grow larger, and I think will be more like 3 feet tall.

Some of the long caned Bourbons do well here. I grow Mme Isaac Pereire, Reine Victoria, Mme Pierre Oger, and Louise Odier.

They grow to about 4-5 feet tall.

For a Spinossissima, I grow Stanwell Perpetual. It's very hardy, a wonderful rose, always has new blooms forming on it.

I grow a number of Austin roses. My favorites are Eglantyne and Sharifa Asma, but it can be hard to pick a favorite Austin as there are so many that I love.

Which suburb? It can make a difference.

I bought two Alberic Barbier from RVR this year and didn't notice they are for z6. They aren't going to overwinter well here, I potted them up in gallon pots and they've put out a lot of new growth and bloomed, but I don't know what the heck I'm going to do with them.

Many roses I have rated for z5 aren't very suitable. They die to the ground, need winter protection, wasn't told that by the vendor.

All you can do is try (must be for somebody else, know you're not in z5) but the hardiest ones are unknowns I've rooted and the Explorer series (don't have those). All mine have some cane dieback except good old Harison Yellow, tips and all survive.

The Austins die to the ground. Thomas Affleck does well. Lady down the street has albas & some others I don't know. They do well.

The suburb is Seven Hills. It is one of the southern west side suburbs. It isn't very close to the lake. Thanks for all the suggestions.

In my zone 5:

Bourbons are hit & miss--some are, some aren't hardy. Louise Odier is.

DAs are but will have winterkill sometimes to near soil level. They bounce back within weeks of spring pruning. Some hardier than others, but all DAs hardier than typical hybrid teas.

The hardiness of the DA's is very dependent on soil conditions and variety. I grow a couple Austins in 4b/5a that had hardly any cane dieback at all, and are among my most vigorous roses.

In MY Z5 growing conditions all of the Austin's on my members page are at least bounce back hardy with the crown buried 2-3 inches below the soil.

Cane hardy Austin's FOR MY growing conditions are:
2/3 of cane length hardy - 'Mayor of Castorbridge', 'St. Swithun', 'Lilac Rose', 'Crocus Rose', 'Charlotte', 'Eglantyne'.
1/4 to 1/3 of cane length hardy - 'Sharifa Asma', 'Gertrude Jekyll', 'Brother Cadfael', 'L.D. Braithwaite', 'Christopher Marlowe', 'Winchester Cathedral', 'Mary Rose', 'Redoute'.

All others will die to the ground in winter but bounce back to 3 foot tall by June or July, with the first flush in mid-June.
