I did the same thing, made a spreadsheet of the plants I bought, widths, heights, planting depth, etc. But I never thought of putting in the name of where I bought them. Good idea!
I also can't imbed the spreadsheet. But I will keep it on my puter, and I will also store to disk, or print out, so if my puter crashes I have a copy.
The spreadsheet made a difference when going to plant too.

First I've seen of Google docs. Very cool. I wanted to try it out so I just uploaded my Clematis spreadsheet to try it out. I print it out each season and scribble notes and update it once or twice a year to match reality. I sort it by Location code and Group and go around in late winter and do my pruning. yes, OCD is my middle name!

The hidden columns are purchase information that I only need occassionally for reference.

I also have hidden columns for older years notes.

The hidden rows are all the ones that have died over the years. ALmost as many that have lived LOL!!!

I can un-hide to see them. not sure if "viewers" can. Feel free to try. I'm experimenting.

Wendy -- one more step. In order for others to view your doc, you must use the PUBLISH option. If you use SHARE, then that's for listing the email addresses of those to share the doc.

Cameron, I can't see your whole spreadsheet - I can't get over to the right far enough to see it. Am I doing something wrong?

All you guys are so organized! You may even inspire me to not only learn how to use and set-up a spreadsheet, but to actually fill it out and organize my records!

I had sent a fake email to myself just to get the link to use above. Later I found that link by itself on the Share Tab that I just could have cut and pasted without the fake "invitation" to me.

Dee -- if your web browser window isn't enlarged to full size, then you'll need to go to full screen. I can only test the blog in Internet Explorer on a PC or Safari on my husband's Mac. If you're using a different browser, then I'm not sure what to suggest. The spreadsheet is embedded using frames and sometimes that doesn't work well in other browsers.

Dee -- can you see the little "published by Google Docs" in the upper right corner of my blog spreadsheet? If so, try clicking on that and it SHOULD take you to my spreadsheet just as you can see Wendy's.

Wendy -- it was probably just lag time. Sometimes when I make changes like that on Google, it takes about 10 minutes to register.

Here's another. THis was made available several years ago by another Clem-aholic. It was the inspiration for mine.

I uploaded another one I had with a color timeline of forcing bulbs indoors. It showed chill time, windowsill time, bloom time... but the graphics I inserted in the rows to show all that didn't upload to google docs. Oh well...

I can't see the whole spreedsheet, the far right side is missing. I am using IE, and my screen resolution is set at 600 x 800. I thought that might be the problem, so I increased my resolution, and made sure I was full page. But I still could not see the entire spreadsheet, the right side was still missing, not at much, but enough to make me frustrated! I can't see anything right of the "sow time" column

I like to keep records, but not to that extent. If I categorized each plant like that it would be too overwhelming. What I prefer to do is make notes on certain perennials or bulbs that need specific care and what I did the previous years. If I find a favorite supplier, I'll note that also. I do keep all my plant tags (or create them) and arrange them in a file box for reference. I track my veggie garden and make notes about trees / shrubs as to planting dates or if I moved them, etc. Now that we have a pond a notebook is essential for keeping track of the fish, plants and all other related tasks as well.

Cameron, I can't see over far enough to click on the "Published Via Google" link. I can see "Published Vi..." and that's it, lol. As far as columns, I can see "Compani..." which I'm guessing is companion plantings. I wish there were a little left-to-right scroll bar at the bottom...

Nancy, I'm like you - I don't think I would be as detailed as our organized buddies here. But I would like to keep track of name, place planted, any special care and/or pruning, requirements/conditions, etc. I have started a few times to keep track, but never followed through.

I'm going to look at Wendy's other links!

I just resized the spreadsheet in my blog to make it narrow with a slidebar at the bottom. Let me know if that works. This is the first time that I've embedded a spreadsheet in the blog, so to know what size works is helpful.

Right -- there should be a slidebar (like in Excel spreadsheets) at the bottom of the spreadsheet that you can move with your mouse --- to the right to see the other columns...that looks just like my view, only I can't see the bottom of the screen to see if you have a slidebar.

Yeah I see it now, but that doesn't seem quite right. If my window is wide enough, I shouldn't need a slider. Its like its a fixed size with a lot of white space to the right (depending on how wide I make my browser window)

The Note is good.

WOW! These are really great spreadsheets! I will try to upload something that I use to keep track of what to do when in the garden. (I've never done this before, but I'm going to learn about Googledocs right now and give it a try - bear with me). Mine is just a Word document, but now that I know how to use Excel, it could easily be converted, and if you take this, and overlay the colors, plant size, bloom season, and where you bought it, you've got everything on one handy spreadsheet. Now I know what my winter garden project will be!
