magnolia in drought stress - how to care

I'm a gardening newbie and going through the first season in this house with numerous shrubs.

Turned off the sprinkler when we had rain and forgot to turn it back on!!!!

I don't remember how long the sprinkler has been off but possibly as long as 4 weeks since mid-July. Month of July in New England was UNUSUALLY hot in high80's and muggy but almost no/little precipitation.

This has caused the yellowing of the leaves on the magnolia tree - star magnolia, I believe. It's about 13 ft tall and in partial shade. This tree flowered in the spring and looked lush and beautiful even until about 2 weeks ago! The yellowing has occurred within last week - 10 days, but about 20% of the leaves are yellow on the north facing side of the tree. Link to photo:

For some reason, doesn't look quite as bad on the south facing side:

I've turned the sprinklers back on and will water about 15% longer for 1-2 weeks.

Will this tree survive and flower next year? I was planning to transplant as it's getting big and situated close to the house structure. What can I do to help this tree recover from apparent distress from drought?
