Gashes and red marks on weeping cherry

trillyfilly

We've noticed some red marks and gashes on our weeping cherry tree, almost like the trunk is being scratched by something. I read on this site about a disease that is particular to weeping cherry trees but I thought that oozing accompanied that disease and I don't notice that on this tree.

The tree is in full sun, good soil, and we planted it about a year ago. I've attached a picture of the scratches.

It seems very healthy otherwise and the branches seem to grow inches overnight. I guess I just want to know whether this is some sort of disease that it will succumb to in the next year or if it is something I can ignore?
