Moving & Overwintering Perennials

I'm helping friends with a move in October...from Zone 7 to Zone 6, and need some advice on moving and overwintering the following: Irises (both bearded and what I think of as regular iris), Oriental poppies, ice plant, vinca, rhubarb, and ostrich ferns.

Reading through the forums, I've picked up some general information, and have a little knowledge from having moved some of these plants from place-to-place on their current property. But they aren't going to have a garden plan ready for a while, and I've found little on how/where to keep these plants or rhizomes until then. Is it best to create a temporary garden outdoors? Keep in the basement? Or in the house in pots?

Also, we're planning to take some clumps of lilies-of-the valley in pots. Should we bury the pots outdoors to await permanent planting, or keep in the basement?

Finally, do Oriental poppies really hate being moved, as I've read elsewhere? Are there any tips on increasing the odds of moving them successfully?

Thanks for your help.
