Hugo Roller
Comments (6)Vintage has a pic listed, under custom rooted teas, as FiddleTown Cherry that looks just like the seventh pic of Hugo Roller at the HMF link. I wrote them and asked to be notified when FTC became available. They wrote me back and said they did have it and it was listed under Frances Grate's Tea. Well, those roses do not look the same to me, so I held off ordering until I find the one Vintage has under FTC.. What a rose! And it says they are highly fragrant, too. Be still my heart.... Here is a link that might be useful: Vintage FTC...See MoreI'm on a countertop/backsplash roller coaster...
Comments (99)I prefer the art to be hung like art on the walls, as was recommended when this came up before. However, I'm feeling a bit lost as to how to be helpful here to you. I STILL like the original tile posted here. A lot. I also like the blue and white coral-like tile and the blue and white circle flowery things which almost could pass for starfish. With the latter two, it seems like they would both combine nicely with white subway if you just wanted an accent tile over the range area instead of taking the pattern all the way across the kitchen. I'm a sucker for arabesque tiles almost all the time, but I do think they showcase better where there is a larger area between counter and uppers than more narrow. And, I'm not as big of a fan of powder, sky and pastel blues for your condo at all. The tile you can peek at in the tropical dining room pic is intriguing if you like the idea of going more towards aqua and less towards the blues - but can't see enough of it to really tell what it is. The pic aktillery posted of the modern bungalow shows again how a kitchen can be basically neutral put still benefit from some color (I happen to love that counter, wonder what that is)....See MoreTea roses for zone 11
Comments (23)Ah I didn't realise that the Australian zones were different to the 'International' chart on the Gardenweb homepage. It's certainly a lot warmer than Mudgee here! We are in Drummoyne and our yard is pretty warm, sunny and protected. Yes I've bought all my potted roses from Green E, in fact over 40 roses in the last 12 months and I'm very happy with all of them. I really enjoy visiting the nursery, the owners are lovely to chat with and provide great advice. It makes for a happy, peaceful afternoon browsing all the potted (and planted) roses! Yesterday I bought Mr Tillier after seeing some blooms for the first time and also Duchess de Brabant. Couldn't resist a Mme Isaac Pereire either - an unnecessary and irrational purchase but oh well! A large General Schablikine still had loads of beautiful blooms at the nursery but no fragrance at all that I could detect. I think I'll probably get a G Nabonnand next. I still can't find anyone else who has Octavius Weld either......See MoreAnyone growing this tea rose in a humid area?
Comments (15)Years ago when I first got on this forum there were posts from a woman who lived in downtown Nashville who had an extensive old rose collection. Old fashion teas seem to dominate her garden. She created a list of disease free roses which I copied and saved and for my first few years of rose growing I used it extensively to select roses since I am just south of Nashville. Unfortunately for me, I underestimated the advantage she was getting from the urban heat island effect giving her an extra zone I didn't have.. Old fashion teas did spectacularly well here for me in terms of blackspot--even better than the modern Kordes. But they just could not withstand the freeze/thaw cycle of early spring. (I'm in an open rural area with no wind protections and am functionally z6 even though I'm officially z7a.) I finally got rid of the last surviving, pitiful teas a couple years ago. I think it is extremely likely that Mlle Franziska Kruger will be clean for you. All though she is not on Jean's list, I'd guess it's just because she didn't grow it. I'd also bet that North Alabama is going to warm enough--especially if you can find a spot with a little wind protection. I can't imagine that 100+ mile south wouldn't give you the same advantage she was getting for urban heat. I say go for it! Here's Jean Harrison's resistant to blackspot list for mostly Antique Roses with teas being the biggest catagory in her Nashville garden. She defined resistance as a rose that didn't lose more than 30% of its leaves. Maybe it can be helpful to someone. Polyanthas: The Fairy Cl. Clotilde Soupert Cl.
