Re: Bleeding Trees..which I think are Cherry Trees

Hello,

I just moved into a new place and have about 4-5 trees planted on the side of my house. They seem to be bleeding a honey colored gum / wax like substance as seen in the pictures below. I do have another 2 similar trees on the other side of the house, but they seem to be fine and have no bleeding. They do have some green stuff on the bark...like mold or something. All the trees dont look too well, they seem a dull and the leaves which are maroon/red have a brown spots on them and small holes in them too.

1) Can anyone diagnose the problem and what the sap like substance is?

2) Do these trees need to be removed? and what should I do to help them.

3) Also I think they are cherry trees, but not sure what kind.

4) I live in Buffalo, NY and did hear about some disease which was killing cherry trees...but not sure if this is whats happening to my trees.

5) Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.
