Future Girdling Roots Problem?

We planted a 15 ft October Red Glory Maple last October in our front yard. I've noticed while watering it that there seem to be a lot of surface roots - more so than the sugar maple that we planted on the other side of our house. I'm a little worried that 2 rather large roots may develop into girdling roots in time (see photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/betsy01/sets/72157606171082374/ ). Is it too early to predict a problem? Is there anything we can do at this point to prevent this from happening - ie: cut them, dig them up and try to redirect them? Thanks!
