Anyone else pleasantly surprised by Moondance?

I love this rose! It has bloomed like crazy, the blooms look beautiful and hold their shape for a long time, the foliage is rich and healthy and it has been a vigorous grower in my garden. I am thinking about adding another one to my front yard.

I'm interested in seeing if everyone else is enjoying it as much as I am?

Why "pleasantly surprised"? Have you read a lot of negatives?

I planted Moondance last fall, and it is a prolific bloomer for me, too. I love the luminous quality of the blooms!

Unfortunately, though, it was the first rose to get BS, so right now it's a lot of blooming on several tall, otherwise bare canes. :-(

I was pleasantly surprised because it was a "new" rose and therefore there wasn't a lot of personal feedback on it.

I'm sorry to hear about your blackspot, thankfully mine shows no signs of it (yet)... just perfect bloom after perfect bloom. :-)

We have had our Sanijet for about 8 years. Operationally, we love it. The jets are perfect in terms of pressure and water movement; the underwater light is super cool. That's what draws the grand-kids, who are that only ones that use it (a couple visits per year) . While we have no leaks, we have had to replace several motors (5 as I remember); they just stop working. And as the other folks said; for a $3,700 tub, you shouldn't have to keep pouring money into it. The argument that we keep having with the tech people is over "why". By now I'm certain that there is a design flaw somewhere in the system; but tech support says we're not using it enough. An extraordinary claim for electric motors, in my experience. Anyway, they tested the control panel and blessed it as being OK; so now we're going to turn it on every couple weeks, for no other purpose that to remove that argument. Hope this works!

Oooh I love the St Charles idea, Pal. Yum. Your color choice would be ...? I think it also merits pointing out that aside from the general dearth of color, we also have so little choice in finishes today. I'd be much more enamored of the current options if they were only more durable. As a renter in my younger years, I had terrible dented pebbly white, smeary steam-discolored stainless, scratched black glass -- you name it, from the 1980's through the 2000's. None of them was impressive. My 1940's O'Keefe & Merritt stove is porcelain enameled steel, a finish that has been taking serious cooking abuse for over 60 years, and still looks gleaming and fabulous in my kitchen. (It's white too, by the way, although I'd jump for avocado.) Why can't today's manufacturers make a good solid finish like that, in ANY color?

I have had two sets of Thomas Lee 100% cotton sheets. They are...to die for. Cool, crisp and smooth. Feel like the sheets my mom line dried in the fresh air back then. Makes me want to go to bed every night. BUT...both have torn. The bottom sheet of the first set actually seemed to wear out and a large tear developed after only a couple years. I thought it must be a fluke so invested in another set. Just couldn’t (can’t ) imagine life without them. Well, the side seam of the top sheet of the second set, now a couple years old, has torn out, I can see actual tiny holes in each stitch point! At well over a hundred dollars on sale, this is ridiculous (I considered them one of my few luxuries). I will try calling the company. I am heart broken, I mean I love these sheets. So begins the search for a new brand!

Honestly, this is the most pleasant forum that I've seen on the Gardenweb site and maybe the whole internet. Others have mentioned the antique forum, garden harvest and the pets forum, but the absolute worst was the Japanese Garden forum about 5+ years ago. There were a handful of know-it-all's who treated all newcomers like imbeciles and things got very very ugly. That forum is all but abandoned now. From my observations, it is always the "closed private party" mentality that gets the fighting started. The internet is largely a public resource and people have to expect anyone and everyone to show up and express their views or ask for opinions. If people want to have private conversations with only like-minded associates, then they should use email, text messaging or set up a private forum. The regulars here are pretty welcoming of the occasional posters that come and go which is what makes it work. I imagine the reason this post is so popular is because as a society we still haven't come to terms with the limitations of written online communication, but at the same time it has exploded in common daily use. Who would have thought 10 or 15 years ago that we would be able to communicate with complete strangers from around the world in writing about every subject known to mankind? There is a huge learning curve as to how to deal with different personalities and different ways of communicating. This seems to be why, on any forum, questions of forum etiquette always receive a lot of responses. It doesn't matter who you are or what type of person you are or what you are discussing, you probably will have run into problems trying to communicate with someone online. It is just a imperfect system (not to sound negative). One thing for sure, everyone here should pat themselves on the back for keeping things so civil as we discuss all things kitchen related.

My MD is not blooming enough. It has been in the ground almost a year but I will give it more time.

I love my Moondance. It grows well, blooms a ton, and the blooms are lovely and fragrant. It is one of my favorite roses.

I planted my Moondance last year, so mine is in its second year and it is doing awesome. I was extremely happy with mine last year, and even posted here to say so. So no, I'm not surprised. : >)

Nice long lasting blooms, nice foliage, nice vigor, definately a winner in my garden.

Another nice white that I've recently added is Pope John Paul II. Big beautiful pure white blooms, heavenly scent, and very very long lasting in a vase. If you love whites, it is another one worth having, imho.

I have to laugh that I mentioned how much I love this rose and didn't remember to post any pictures of it. Thanks to Bob and Matt for rectifying that oversight.

Matt, I do have a thing for white in the garden. I probably have as much white as I do every other color combined. PJP II has been on my, "pick it up if I see it" list and I am surprised that I haven't come across it here in Chicago anywhere. After your recommendation, I would probably still order one now if J&P wasn't falling apart at the moment.

I went back to buy another Moondance this week and I happened upon a nice rose sale and picked up a Tamora, a Jude, and a Jeanne Lejoie. Ahhh... life is good.
