What did you WS this year that you're really excited about?
Comments (24)I'm excited for everything that I've winter sown! Some aren't new to me, but they were ones that I had difficulty germinating last year. Evening Primrose Bleeding Hearts Gaillardia Bells of Ireland 3 Dianthus varieties Delphinium Ladybells Carnations Texas Redbud Clematis Texas Bluebonnet Echinacea Balloonflower Aster varieties Sedge Wild Bergamot Jacob's Ladder Eastern Bluestar Persicaria Garlic chives Breadseed poppies @ docmom: I planted delphinium last year during the spring and they never made it past their second set of leaves. I randomly tossed a seed or two into an urn with petunias in it during the summer, and sure enough it sprouted and eventually bloomed in October. It's doing great now. I recently transplanted it because a mum had taken over. A week later and no issues with it at all. I'm beginning to wonder if their poor record is a bit over exaggerated. We'll see. Good luck with yours!...See MoreDo you have a goal for your garden?
Comments (27)Wow Libby, your garden is just beautiful. Do you spend a lot of time staking? Your spikes of delphinium look perfect. That picture would make a beautiful painting. My goal is to someday have my entire yard completed with the various gardens I have in mind. I finished (although still tweak) my cottage garden and slope garden and now have moved into the backyard to start on more or less a woodland garden walk with mainly trees and shrubs. Once I have worked that area for a few years I have another large area where I hope to do something like an English walled garden (however I'm not sure what the walls will be and probably need to win the lottery first! LOL!!) After that I still have a few other areas to complete. It's a work in progress and I'm so glad I have a piece of land that will keep me busy for years to come....See MoreWhat are your goals for your garden this year
Comments (21)Oh, wow, where do I start. My Mom died in July and I inherited her orchids. I know how to water them and that's about it, so I'll need to learn to repot as many of them are growing out of their bounds. I also inherited a big hoya that I need to revive since the landscapers at her house yanked it out of the pot and were going to toss it. I got it back but it's worse for the wear. My other goal is to improve the look of the protected back yard garden in the winter months. I have lots of plants that look great and lush in summer but in the winter it looks pretty bare back there, particularly the plumeria "sticks". I like low maintenance plants with a lot of color, so I'm looking for a lot of different species of crotons, I think they look great and particuarly if there are a lot of them planted in groupings. I also want to keep planting beds and ground cover so I can eventually get rid of all my grass. I'd like to start vermicomposting. And when my mom's house sells, I'll put in a walled courtyard with a pool, so it will be fun to plan the landscape for that area. I'm really looking forward to that....See MoreDid any of you make any new year goals?
Comments (13)I don't do New Year's resolutions, either. However, with this year starting out so differently (DD having moved out last summer, Mom dying a month ago), I have decided to make a few changes and have already pulled out an old, unfinished project that maybe, just maybe I'll find a way to finish and sent out into the world. But that's all I'm saying about that. I'm also toying with the idea of maybe looking for a job, what with all the extra free time I have. But it will be a challenge to find something worthwhile, where they'd be interested in hiring an 'almost 60-year old' that would be fun. Children's museum? aquarium? or some other place I could interact with and teach children, possibly....See Morelilsprout
