Did any of you make any new year goals?

I haven't made any....

But I'd like to know what goal you all might have.

Resolutions you mean? Those things that go out the window in 3 days at my house? LOL
Goals, I have a few that I'd love to accomplish by October 25th when DD#2 gets married!
Lose 15 pounds
quit smoking
paint at least 4 rooms in my house (more need it but I'd settle for 4 rooms)
new flooring that I have wanted for the past 3 years but can't afford
give DD the wedding of her dreams

I'll let ya know which ones get accomplished! LOL

No, I quit making them years ago. Jerry and I agree to stick by our last goal/resolution, We are no longer making resolutions! :)

Hey T2D, So - you did manager to somehow rid your garden of woodchucks? You don't need to tell us how that was accomplished, but I bet that's a huge relief that plants can actually grow now. Good thing they didn't molest your new orange roses. Your slope area - is that the one you showed in a thread about converting a perennial garden to have more shrubs? I remember you had a sloped area with a nice assortment of mature shrubs. If you changed that area I'd be interested in knowing why, since that is the exact look I am going for. I have not attempted a mosaic but that is a great idea. Are you going to try it? It would be relatively simple: just prep a sand bed, gather an assortment of stones, and arrange/rearrange to your heart's content. In addition to natural rocks, leftover pieces from a place that makes kitchen countertops would be really fun. You could have marble or whatever else suits your fancy. Relaxing in the garden. Huh. Doesn't that seem like the last thing we get around to? :) We're getting better about that too. Our main seating area in the garden now has afternoon shade thanks to maturing trees, and we hang out there a lot more often now. Speaking of goals - I've had a pile of mulch on the driveway for so long I think it's in our Google Earth pictures. But yesterday I shoveled up the last of it and swept the spot clean. Whoa... it feels odd to have it gone. Of course I need more mulch now but we can enjoy the clean, empty driveway for at least a little while, can't we?

lily51, A separate bed for squash is a great idea! They are vegetables that are taking over my garden. I may just combine two of my beds next year and have squash, cukes, and pumpkin in those. I did a lot of things not quite right this year (and am learning from them :) but one thing I did that was good is the path filler - I used pea gravel over the black weedblock fabric. It has been great. No dirt comes in on your shoes, not a single weed has gotten through on the walk, and it looks really nice - and it was pretty cheap getting it by the tubful (shovel yourself) at the local masonry. If you want to see a picture - there is another poster on this forum whose garden I saw and it made me want to use pea gravel. She posted photos here under the "post pictures of your garden please" post earlier this summer. I saw it and I made up my mind. Good luck!

Our kitchen was more of a rebuild than a redesign. We didn't change the layout very much but one of the small changes we did make ended up causing an issue. The original end cabinet on our cooktop wall was 9". We used the bottom for trays and it wasn't too awful but we didn't use the top cabinet at all because it was useless. After the KD laid everything out we talked about it and decided to change that cabinet from a 9" to a 12" cabinet. Good for trays below and since it would have a glass door we could put a few display items above. In order to add those 3" the KD took 3" from the super Susan in the corner. The resulting problem wasn't discovered until the cabinets were being installed and I was called at work and told that the run of cabinets 90 degrees to that run was coming up 3" short of where they should be! She had taken 3" from the super Susan and added it back on the one run but never added it back to the other side! My kitchen is not big enough to lose 3" of floor space or counter space. I had the carpenter remove that run of cabinets and move them out the 3" and add a filler. I hated that filler though. We had a pretty lengthy delay between putting in the cabinets and adding the counters so it gave me plenty of time to stare at that gap. I ended up ordering a 3" spice pull out from rev-a-shelf and it is a much better solution. I only wish I had known about the gap,well beforehand. I'd have moved those cabinets 6" instead of 3" and had a more substantial pullout had I had time to really think about it.

Sharon, I use the soft floral foam (light green and it comes in rectangular blocks from the craft store/dept). I cut a piece to fit a tupperware dish. Make it a tight fit! Then I cut it into 2 inch cubes (doesn't have to be perfect..just run your knife through the foam that was inserted into the tupperware.) Poke a little hole, with a bamboo skewer, into the center of each cube. Fill the container about 3/4 way with water. I have well water but I used to do this with city water, doesn't seem to matter. Make your passiflora cuttings about 5 inches. You dont want the super soft ends but not so far down the stem that the nodes are really far apart. Take your cutting with a leaf node at the bottom. Cut off most of the leaves. Dampen the bottoms of the cuttings in water then dip them into dry rooting hormone like Rootone. Then poke one into each hole. Put them in a warm bright place. I've done them on a windowsill in Spring or under grow lights. Keep the water level up. You will be able to see the roots growing out through the clear tupperware. You can then take it and plant it in a cup or pot with potting soil etc. This actually works well with most vines and some semi hardwood plants. Some passies I did a few yrs ago. Yes....this time of year about 4 years ago, I resolved to quit smoking and lo and behold ...somehow I managed to do it and now...I have to lose the weight I gained...My doctor told me to worry about the smoking first and then the weight so...I am convinced I have done that so now I'm going to work on the weight...I lost a lot of weight last year but I was at the point where I was sick and tired of dieting so I quit and I have gained some of it back so I'm off on a weight loss tangent for the new year..

One of my goals is to eat healthier, and I was doing that really well until all the Christmas candy/cookies/pies etc. started rolling in! I will get back to it.

Another goal is the same as a year ago, and I did a fairly good job with it and want to continue. The goal is "DO IT NOW." In other words, don't let things that need to be done sit around. Big things and little things. Stay on top of things, run my life, don't let life run me.

I never make any because I never keep them:( I am sad eh????

This year I am turning 60 YAHOOO!! So I want to make some changes in my life not big ones just things just for me:)
I have dubbed this year 'The Year of Jackie'. Now we shall see if I can do any of it or just get lazy:(

One is to quit coloring my hair and see just how grey I am?? Maybe I will like it:) But how does one do that and not look skunky??

I don't do New Year's resolutions, either. However, with this year starting out so differently (DD having moved out last summer, Mom dying a month ago), I have decided to make a few changes and have already pulled out an old, unfinished project that maybe, just maybe I'll find a way to finish and sent out into the world. But that's all I'm saying about that.

I'm also toying with the idea of maybe looking for a job, what with all the extra free time I have. But it will be a challenge to find something worthwhile, where they'd be interested in hiring an 'almost 60-year old' that would be fun. Children's museum? aquarium? or some other place I could interact with and teach children, possibly.

BUT after reading in the Gratitude thread about living each day if it was going to be the last, I think I'll just do that! :-)
