Any Mary Magdalene Fans?

I've been trying to find some Apricot colored Austins that would be pot friendly (besides Tamora) and came across this rose. Does anyone grow it? How is it doing for you?

hi this is a picture of my Mary Magdalene in spring,
she is a very delicate apricot on opening and fades white on aging. I wanted to post my picture of this but it didnt
work.this seems to be a smallish bush I think it would do well in a pot.

Thanks! The blooms look bigger than Tamora. Does it have nice scent? I will keep it in mind for next spring!

Mustb, I have grown one plant of MM in two locations in Northern CA, and I am very fond of it. It is a good grower and a great bloomer. (Perhaps I should also say that I am not a DA fan in general.) I cannot really address the fading question because I always cut the blooms for vases. (Consider, though, that it fades to white, which is usually acceptable.) It is a fine vase rose, and I value in particular the darker colored buds. The flower colors, pink with yellow highlights, mix well with yellows, pinks, and whites. (I like it with Gruss an Aachen.) It does have that intense anise/licorice scent, which is officially called myrrh, I believe, and which I happen really to like. Larry

We have all of Martin's books. My problem with your argument (which is a friendly one!) is you are assuming Weir writes romance novels when she doesn't. You said, "Who could possibly have come up with a fictional version of a 16th century king's life that would equal the facts of Henry VIII's?!" That kind of bit because that's not how Weir writes. Mantel also writes historical fiction. Does that mean Wolf Hall is a romance novel? No. Have you read any of Weir's non-fiction? She stays with fact and questions a lot of theories, because nobody really knows the dialogue back then, but both authors make up their own dialog & speculate in order to tell story. Weir may not have an academic background but that doesn't mean she's not a historian. She is labeled a Historian by others. I'm aware she's said she writes popular history, but that doesn't negate the fact she telling us what happened back then. Anyway, enough with "My author is better than your author." LOL. Lynn, when I'm reading I keep my iPad next to me so I can look up names and places. I keep Google Earth on England. :) In highschool one of my "dead" classes was being Library Assistant, and the Librarian is the one who turned me onto Holt. Which led to the Tudor era. BTW, did you see Hever Castle on G.E.?

Our fireplace is in a lower part of the house so the heat rises into the main part of the house. We also have put up one of the corner frame fans. The 2 together really pushes the air. I just checked Amazon. They have both the fans and the corner frame fans. Good prices, too.

Oakley, American Robin eggs are blue, according to every book and website I have ever seen. There are other types of robins-could those be what you are referring to? The Cornell Lab of Ornithology says this:. "Egg Description: Sky blue or blue-green and unmarked." The Audubon Society agrees: "Usually 4, sometimes 3-7. Pale blue or 'robin's-egg blue.'" eta:. Sites like your link with the photos are not always accurate in their identifications. eta 2: love all the pictures and really, really want a couple of goats!

I love MM, she stays small even in Florida which is quite a feat. She does fine in a pot. This week she is showing a lovely coral pink which happens sometimes. It looks like Lilian Austin. But mostly she is a creamy apricot. It is one of the few roses of any color that is clean in my thrip invested garden:

She's beautiful! I wish Heirloom hadnt been sold out of her. Now that the sale is over they have her back in stock. But I'll wait till next spring. With 6 roses to deal with this late in the season, I have enough on my hands. Something to look forward to next spring!

It's at the top of my wish list. I went to David Austin's Garden a week ago and hoped to pick it up then, but it was sold out. I'll have to order it for the autumn. Here are a few photos I took of MM from Austin's garden.

I planted Mary Magdalene early July, in partial shade. It needs a lot of water. It didn't grow an inch until we have six heavy rains (all night) - Pat Austin (also new) next to it were blooming non-stop - Radio Times (also new) grew twice bigger.

It looks like a slow grower that likes water.

Pat Austin has proved to be a big disappointment to me. I've had her 3 years now. She puts out a big first flush, then I get nothing out of her once it gets hot. And a few piddly blooms in the fall.
