Comments (17)Les, I think you may have missed the fact that 'Andy' responded to ken's comments and his direct link to the Hosta Patch (scroll back up to see it)! Many times, when the topic of a good source is discussed folks chime in with their experience with other sources as well. Anita also made a comment about Hallson's, previously, and the OP acknowledged Hallsons' AND added Naylors' as being noteworthy as good sources! It's just how it tends to be here, (note andy's been around here since 2008--though I don't know him beyond this thread--I don't think!) with no intention to hi-jack the op's thread in mind, but just rounding out the discussion at hand! Sorry, Les, I don't mean to be contrary toward you, either, and I know you tried to be diplomatic in your accusal, but I just hate to see folks made to feel badly that way, (he has to feel unfairly singled out and SMACKED--I would anyway) especially when it's unwarranted as I feel is the case here, given the nature of this forum, and the actions of other posters before him in this thread! I hope andy10917, nor any newbie ever feel they cannot enter into our discussions for fear of transgressing and being singled out for it, unless they are intentionally unkind, or disrespect toward one another, spamming or intending to be malicious toward another person or business! Like, when is it EVER appropriate to be *malicious*?? Reporting *an unpleasant and verifiable truth* might be warranted--but very carefully considered beforehand, I hope! *PEACE* to you, Les and for this forum at large! We're, indeed, a diverse and interesting mix of folk who happen to really enjoy our hosta! janice...See MoreContrary Mary's
Comments (3)Sorry to hear CM's was not a well kept nursery. I was there a few years back when she was just getting started and I hoped she would be successful. Like many small time nursery owners, things may have gotten too big too fast. I know they grew quite quickly and offer ponds and other services too, but having a weedy display garden and HVX is unacceptable. On a better note Hornbaker's is THE place to go to visit beautiful gardens and numerous healthy plants. I go there a couple times each season and always find something special there....See MoreMary, Mary, quite contrary. How does your garden grow?
Comments (4)Hello desertsage, If it were me I would plant it in the full sun garden. I am growing both plants here in Las Vegas at about 2200 ft elevation - even hotter I suspect than where you are. They are in full sun positions but on the east side of the house so eventually late in the afternoon they get some relief from the sun but not much. It's funny what you said about the more dead look in the summer being normal. I so get that. Our clevlandii is spectacular every spring a six foot wide mass of purple and blue candelabras but by now the flowers are dried and the plant looks dormant. I used to dead head imediately but I've grown to love the look of the dried calxys(sp) The apiana I grew from seed and planted out just last spring right next to the clevlandii but it is fine although still small in its hot spot after a brutal summer that wiped out all the greggiis I had. I think I'm going to have to add apiana to the short list of salvias that seem to like it here in the furnace. Maria...See MoreOakley
