Teasing Georgia

My brand new computer wouldn't work, so it had to be sent to Athens to be mended.

I have only just got it back, after weeks and weeks of being without one.

Lots of things have been happening in the garden which I haven't been able to tell you about, but now that the weather is very hot and sunny, I must tell you how much I am impressed with Teasing Georgia.

I planted two this last winter, to climb over a tiny pergola. They are in the hottest part of the garden and although still small, seem to be thriving.

No wilting, no shrinking, no crisping, just beautiful.

She has still got a way to go!!!

Daisy, I'm so glad you posted! I was wondering why we hadn't heard from you in such a long time.

Teasing Georgia is a beautiful and vigorous rose, and I don't think it will take long to cover your structure. You have such a profusion of flowering plants and I think TG, when she really gets going, is going to be the centerpiece of this area. We really wouldn't mind more pictures of your garden!

TG will cover that in no time. I like your wiring job! The arbor is going to look fantastic when TG fills i in.

Thank you so much guys for your further helpful comments. So it seems GT and TG may grow too big... 5 ft, 6ft, 7ft.. and ratdogheads's GT canes as high as 12 ft, even when grown as a shrub?! This is why real life experiences are so valuable... thank you! It sure seems they are happier as a climber, and if so, and I assume they are also wider than advertised in that case, they are most certainly beyond what this specific space can accommodate. I want whatever plants that will sit there to be happy and comfortable... (*BUT, I am determined to find some other bigger space for them in the future... they are too beautiful not to!). So, in that sense a shorter side of the range would also be good as well for that particular space (it's safer). I checked out Molineux and Poet's Wife. They are pretty, and I saw yesterday the ARS website saying Molineux can take some shade. ratdogheads, how many hours of sun does your Molineux get? I've been searching/reading those varieties suggested... and currently about spinosissimas. mad_gallica, which yellow spinosissimas would you particularly recommend, and where can it/they be purchased? I saw a yellow one (R. spin. Williams' Double Yellow) at UK's David Austin, but US's does not seem to carry it. I also saw Harisons Yellow which as I understand it a half spinosissima? Could you please share your experience if you grow this variety? After the last post I also read at ARS's website that Julia Child can take some shade too, and Heirloom Roses' website says floribundas can be one of good choices for part shade. I'd appreciate it if anyone can comment about how JC actually does in part shade. Thank you again for your comments so far, they are really helpful!

Thank thank you Carolina girl. Now I just need to decide on the top portion my friend calls me everyday to ask have I decided how I want to do that. He calls me his designer! LOL! I am pleased with this little side gate as this is using the old Gothic fencing that's well over 70 years old from my house. Lots of it brought it and I couldn't use it for anything at my house so he took it in his recycling it there. It just makes me so happy to see it in use. I especially like the closing mechanism that I saw on a neighbor's gate and copied. I just can't decide if I want something that's full Arch, a slight Arch or something coming up to a peak as I originally planned for the overhead section. I'm just not sure if they're too many Peaks happening. LOL! I always wanted a walkthrough gate and since I don't have one at my house I might as well have one that I can visit. JC, those roses look fantastic. I can't believe how much they have grown. I planted a teasing Georgia and my friends Garden my garden last year so looking forward to growth like yours! I might plant in other climber on the backside of this Rose to mingle with the perennial blue. I'm hoping I have one called Golden Olymp which would look very lovely I think together.

Lilyfinch - I was just googling Teasing Georgia Without Support and your Houzz post came up! I just got my 1 gallon own root from Heirloom Roses on Tuesday. Here are two questions for you: 1) would you plant the 1 gallon own-root right away, or put it in a 2-3 gallon pot and then wait for cool fall weather? WE're about to get a heat wave, so I won't plant it this weekend, for sure. 2) How do you think TG would do on a south facing slope that gets a bit of dappled shade during the heat of the late afternoon. I'm worried maybe it won't get as much water as it would want...but maybe it would be okay with a big basin around it? I have my rose/cottage border that you've seen pictures of -- on one side of the border is my walkway and then house. On the far side of the border is a slope -- not too wide - but steep enough that I need stepping stones /stairs and I go slower on them so I don't accidentally break my neck...

Fabulous!! Those blooms are to die for, such a rich and sunny yellow and I love the reddish tinge on the newly opened ! I am still waiting on buds from my TG this year, in zone 11, but she's just been a jolly green giant. I hope she will put on a beautiful show like yours does!

Delightful pictures! 'Teasing Georgia' will welcome that handsome structure. Unsupported shoots will break over from the weight of the huge clusters.

Daisy, I am so glad that you are able to post, again! Your Teasing Georgia looks absolutely lovely and so does the pergola that you build. When Teasing Georgia has conquered it completely it will be a sight to behold.

I love all the delicate companion plants around your garden and Teasing Georgia is really a very pretty rose. It is always healthy and has lovely rosette flowers in various shades of yellow. Good choice, Daisy!

Bought a grafted Teasing Georgia last fall from a local nursery and finally got it in the ground this February in between the rains. It started blooming in March and has basically been nonstop! It's 5ft+ high - I planted it on an archway hoping it might cover one side, and it looks like it will have no problem doing so. I read on this forum that someone in Malibu has TG growing on an arbor and the canes are nearly 15 ft!

Daisy, how beautiful your garden looks and you can imagine how stunning it will be in years to come with a mature Teasing Georgia over your very impressive pergola.

Thank-you all for your comments.
My D.H. built the pergola.
He has also built two small arbours and one very large one.
He is presently finishing off the little pond, but has slowed down as it has become too hot to work outside.

Mudbird. It seems that we planted Teasing Georgia at the same time! It would be interesting to compare notes now and again, to see how they do.

Ingrid. I have been admiring your garden on the gallery. It is serene,elegant and welcoming.
There are a couple more pictures of my garden, on Melissa's thread- "What (non rose) plants are you obsessing over these days". The paving and steps are still not done! They will have to wait for winter now. It's too hot, and the work would cause too much disruption to the plants that are growing over where the paths will be.
