Mme Pierre is a sport of Reine Victoria. She is cupshaped, delightful and blooming in July in Melbourne,so should do wonders in Perth. She is sometimes called La Reine V.

They are the same rose-it is generally conceded these days that the La is not a part of the name and was tacked on by mistake and as Sue says Mme Pierre Oger is her sport.

Between the two Reine Victoria(mother of Mme Pierre Oger) and La Reine which one will you choose? and why?

They are so completely different, it's hard to say.

Mme. Pierre Oger, a Bourbon, climbed 14 ft. here.
Pruned better, I've seen it, or Reine Victoria, make hefty 8-foot Shrubs.
Most Bourbons do not really excell here, and she was no exception.
She rusted and mildewed, and is gone.

Le Reine, by contrast, is usually a low-growing HP.
Very much upright. Maybe 3.5 to 4 ft. tall.
She CAN rust and/or Mildew, but has reasonable resistance.
She stays.
We have seen very old ones that were a bit larger.

The flowers are very different as well-and the foliage. The flowers of Reine Victoria are very cupped resembling a nest of very fine china cups-it is a very delicate look-Mme Pierre Oger even more so while La Reine is robust in form and larger. Foliage on RV is also thin and slender-rather peaky looking here while La Reine is again robust. I love both.

La Reine is a rose that has often been found in old cemeteries,
surviving through decades of neglect.
That says a lot about her toughness and staying power.
She's mannerly in the garden, and also great in a vase

thanks jeri and patriciae. Between the two Reine victoria and MPO which one is less vigorous? I have a small backyard and i have to be careful of what i plant.

One of the advantages of this Bourbon is that it does not mind being pruned-it will give you more rebloom if you prune frequently. Reine Victoria is a long caned Bourbon and is very apical dominant-the tip bud supresses the side laterals-it really responds to pegging(pulling the tip down to supress it) and pruning so you can keep it smaller if you want. I nip away at mine all during the summer reshaping the bushes all along. Feed them well since they keep blooming. I see no difference in vigor between the two. I would chose MPO of the two because the flower is more unusual but that is me. I do love the cupped roses.

Karima, I'd say they were the same.
And I suspect Patricia's right, and that keeping them lower will increase their bloom.

La Reine, of course, is no problem in that respect, as it is more restrained by far, in size.
