Well, if they are Gallicas ("French") you will want to prune them (if they need pruning) after their spring bloom is finished.
If you like, we could try asking some of the French rosarians if they are familiar with these cultivars?

They could be gallicas but also ramblers would fit the bill. Rlake what size are the flowers? Gallicas will have flowers from 2 to nearly 4 inches wide. The leaves on a gallica will nearly always be at most smooth and more likely somewhat rough but regardless are never shiny. A rambler will in most cases have somewhat glossy foliage and smooth canes with sparse prickles.

Ramblers will also tend to bloom in clusters sometimes as much as 100 blooms in a bunch.

Gallicas will reach 4 to 5 feet tall and about the same in width over time while a rambler can grow to 20 feet tall and or wide.

I only fertilize my once blooming rose once in April as the foliage is coming out. I never really do much with my gallicas as far as pruning. I have it planned to prune them this summer but it will be their first hard pruning since I bought them. Some of them have been in my garden for nine or ten years.

I would guess that those are made up names. There was a 'Madame de Pompadour' hybrid tea from 1945. According to HMF it has:

Red, copper shading, yellow reverse. Mild fragrance. Medium, double (17-25 petals), globular bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.

As for "Madam Boubier", the name is a corruption of Madame Bouvier, it would seem; although Mme. de Boudoir would have been more fun. There is a new unregistered rose 'Madam Bouvier'. It seems unlikely that it is a match for the craigslist rose.

The correct spelling for the second french rose is Madame Bouvier. I will load photos for you to see and maybe that will help with determining the type and what care is required. I will try to place the photos is my clippings, the Madame Pompadour is the light pink color, the Madame Bouvier is the the dark violet color rose.

Brent Dickerson spent 2 decades compiling lists of all know cultivars of roses introduced before about 1920. He examined libraries in the US and Europe scouring every publication in those libraries and in private hands for every known cultivar.

Mr. Dickerson published that work 20 years ago in two Books, "The Old Rose Adventurer" and "The Old Rose Advisor" covering once blooming old European roses and re-blooming roses with China influence respectively.

Neither "Madame Pompadour" nor "Madame Bouvier" are included in these canonical texts. One can conclude that either these roses have lost their original identities and the names now attached to them are new or that they are more recent introductions than the 1920s.

I did upload some photos of the roses in the garden gallery. I have been told that these roses are well over 100 years old, and haven't been allowed to be imported for at least 80 years. I found someone who is willing to help me, so maybe together we can figure these roses out. I would love to hear any care comments, because these are once blooming, and are of a different cultivar. any information is greatly appreciated, thanks.
