Hi Robert: I love that peaceful picture that you posted, it does look like an oasis as Seil described. I have the herb rosemary here but my cooking is so bad that I need some tips on how to use rosemary in cooking (I tried on steamed salmon and it wasn't that good). I'm temped by Louis Odier, it's hardy to zone 5a - I'm too lazy to peg and wonder if Krista grows it as a free standing shrub, or does it need pegging on a trellis or wall in zone 5a? Hi lizalily in PNW: I took own-root Firefighter from my Rose Unlimited since I want to get it grafted instead. Hot Cocoa is always in bloom at the rose park nearby, zone 5a. This winter is mild, and I'm hoping for another mild winter. The last 2 winters were brutal, my Knock-outs died back to the crown. Does anyone know if winter 2012-2013 will be mild like this year? If so, then I'll add more Meilland roses like Pink Peace, Peter Mayle along with Melody Perfume and Firefigher (I believe these 2 are low-in-thorns?) Thank you.

Sure, will look into, probably next week when it is hopefully cooler! It was 104 here today.:( Anything shipped now might turn into steamed lettuce. No, it is unlikely that I'll attend because my four-legged menagerie makes arrangements complicated. The day with the presentations is kind of pricey too, and I'm retired so cost is a consideration. I wonder if they could webcast it? Local colleges/universities are sometimes sources of webcast capabilities at very moderate costs (especially if it is part of a student project where they can earn credit for supporting an event) or even free (if you know who and how to ask). Many online webcasts that I view on horses are free (but an organization that doesn't have the budget to do that might be able to charge a small fee). As to President Dutailly, his is the picture featured on the hybrid perpetual page at Vintage. Gorgeous!!!! I don't know about the heat requirement however, as I've only seen him in my garden and Eurodesert's. Maybe you could ask Gregg Lowery? But as to the shade, well I have 2 PD's (it's that suckering habit dontcha know!), and one gets early morning sun, then dappled shade/sun the rest of the day. It looks perfectly happy. Whether it would like that amount of shade in a cooler location I don't know. Melissa

Duchess de Montebello makes a nice upright bush as a focal point. Every garden should have one. Botzaris also makes a tidy bush Duchesse de Buccleugh good shape and wonderful colour Orephine de Juilet also a good shape Armide can be a monster and also will bend over, but loads of flowers Anais Segales and Beau Narcisse has stayed on the low side for me Neptune flowers were beautiful and had a good fragrance but they discoloured quickly in my garden. I hope someone will contradict me. Most Mosses in my garden tend to droop over at the top especially Marechal Davoust, he does need to be staked but many blooms. A friend has Empress Josephine and she doesn't stay in bloom very long so I never got her. Again please say it isn't so.
