How my Noella Nabonnand arrived from Vintage
Comments (6)Sherry, I have seen photos of Noella on HMF , where she looked red, but, then I'v also seen photos where she looked just like mine. There is a someone in Italy, Courtaud, who has posted photos of a three year old plant from a distance, and the buds look just like mine. I think she will turn more magenta - red as she ages. I too, want Marie Nabonnand. As far as I can tell, the only place in this country who has her ( but not currently for sale) is Greenmantle Nursery in California. And they don't sell to Florida. The owner imported Marie Nabonnand from France back in the 80's as Mons. Tillier, I think she said. There seems to be some confusion about Marie, but Greenmantle has researched it, and is certain that's who she has. Have you gone to www.roses-nabonnand.com/photos-france.html ? There are several photos of Marie, as well as other beauties. I wish a certain Miss Cydney would propagate Paul Nabonnand..... If "Sherry, The Enabler" could play "Sherry, The Little Bird" and whisper in her ear ..... I could promote you to "Sherry, The Super Enabler". Now, isn't that a title worth a few words? Anyway, I think I have the real Noella. Time will tell. :>) Gracin...See More2nd to Last Vintage Order Arrived
Comments (8)Nastara, the Ruga and Morning Stars I received were really good size and looked to be at least a couple of years old; Ruga was actually blooming like mad right out of the box yesterday. So maybe they weren't that popular and they still have quite a few? If not, I will be sure to send you cuttings :) I think a lot of us are going to be hitting eachother up for cuttings of some we weren't able to get, if no other nurseries pick them up. You mentioned the Ayreshires, although I don't know of a source for Duc de Constantine, I'll keep my eyes open for it. Looks really nice! I have a rambler addiction...just happy I have to room for them, otherwise I don't know what I would do without them! Bluegirl...Jack Frost was on my shortlist....you'll have to let us know how it does. I may hit you up for cuttings of it later :) I bet you're right about their recent sales...I can't believe how much inventory they've sold out of recently! I have one last order coming at the end of June...just in case I have any last minute additions. Tammy...See Morefinal Vintage order polyantha choices
Comments (10)I've had Katherina Zeimet for a couple of years now. It started as a bareroot grafted from Pickering, but when I decided to grow only own-root roses I was able to root a cutting of it no problem, which can't be said of many rose varieties. My experience with polyanthas and fragrance is different from yours--I find that most lack fragrance, and Katharina is an exception as she does have a nice, moderate fragrance. She does bloom almost non-stop. I just recieved my Lady Anne Kidwell from Vintage, and she hasn't bloomed yet. I hear her color is fabulous and unique, though. One thing to think about perhaps--the Rogue Valley clone of this rose has developed the RMV, and the Vintage one apparently has not, so you might want to either grab one for that reason, or be suspicious that it might have the virus without symptoms, depending on whether your a pessimist or optimist....See MoreVintage order arrived!
Comments (8)Ingrid, we have Grandmother's Hats that have been pruned down almost like HTs, making stocky, compact shrubs, and we have never-pruned ones that grow into big, graceful semi-climbers. In my climate, it looks like you can do almost anything with it. Very obliging rose. FWIW, it is nothing like any other HP we've ever grown. We planted out some young ones, to form a hedge, where we don't want someone to inadvertently drive off a ledge and land in our bedroom. A week or so ago, some fool drove right over one of them. Next morning DH went out and propped it back up, and it never missed a beat. Mme Caroline Testout is a beauty. I lost mine. I need to get another. Jeri...See Morenastarana
