St. Patrick

I grew this beauty on fortuniana root stock and it was a monster. 30/40 per bloom cycle. I know it is cold sensitive so I need to winter protect up here. Something I have learned since moving up to this area is Dr Huey root stock roses grow big and strong. Matching my fortuniana bush's. My question is how well does St. Patrick do on Dr. Huey. I know people are growing it because it sells out every season. OK folks, tell about your St. Patrick.

I have it on Dr. Huey. It has done quite well. Last year there was some rotted wood on the graft, but it seems to have rebounded from that. It does get some boitritus and thrips, but it usually recovers well from those.

Ditto buford's experience. All I have is Dr. Huey, but I always bury the bud unions. St. Patrick is a very strong rose and loves the heat. However when it's really hot, the blooms will pancake a bit. Mine tends to stay a bit on the short side - maybe 4 feet max. It does not reach for the moon like most hybrid teas. Very, very long lasting when cut for the vase.

I can't help with advice on posting pictures, but maybe asking some more questions might help? eg: In what way does it look like St Patrick - bloom and bud form and colour (minus green tint) only, or the whole plant - overall habit, leaf colour and texture, prickles, etc? I'm not familiar with St Pat, but is it possible it could actually BE St Pat, just not currently showing its green tint?

Thank you for the feedback—I wish everyone could come! Yes, oxalis BBstx, and the local supermarkets have them as well as nurseries and store like Walmart. I babysat over the weekend for our grands and while in their town visited a target store to look for anything St Patrick related for the centerpiece. They had NOTHING, and when I asked about it was told that all had been sold more than a month ago! This brought home the fact that I have only a scant two weeks to prepare. 😳 I’m glad there is general approval of the menu, but have a question: I was thinking i would garnish each plate with mint and three slices of kiwi, which is basically ”the” fruit. Is that enough of a fruit presence or would you have melon wedges as well? I’d probably do honeydew for the color (instead of my original plan for cantalope) or I could serve smaller honeydew chunks and blueberries together— which woukd obviate the need for a sharp knife.

“I still do it because it makes me happy” Yes!! I so identify. And I have come to understsnd that hosting isn’t for everyone. Some are just over cooking while others are made nervous the very thought. I do totally get that . i keep inviting my desrest friends , and it bothers me not that there’s little to no reciprecating from some. . I appreciate their wanting to come to my house. It gives me joy to gather friends at home.

Mine was poor, perhaps just a poor specimen. I would love to try it on Fortuniana, if a space opens up.

Mine is on Dr. Huey from S&W Greenhouse. I planted it this spring and so far its pretty vigorous (usually Dr. Huey is sluggish here compared to multiflora). It also has a fairly long bloom cycle. The current cycle has been going for close to two weeks.

My plant on Dr Huey has performed very well for quite a few years now. It's a superior rose in many respects. I agree with Rosetom's observation that the blooms "pancake a bit". More than a bit in my experience. My only regret is that I wish I'd not planted it where I did -- in my direct line of vision when I look out the windows over my kitchen sink. The sight of all those pancaked blooms -- like little yellow flying saucers on sticks -- can become a bit tiresome when one is confronted with them many times every day.
