I don't think you will like my opinion, but...
Ambridge rose is NOT a semi no spray rose, Just not.
Felicia should be hardy in your zone, no problem. At least I could grow it to 8X8 feet size with zero winter dieback when I lived in KY. However, both Cornelia and Felicia will get BS and defoliate based on my experience. Felicia's fragrance is hard to beat. Felicia and Cornelia are great roses, but not no spray in KY.
Duchesse de Brabant will take several years to grow to good size in your zone. And in zone 6b Teas really require a lot of sun to be happy.
Mlle Francisca Kruger can ball badly.

I am sorry for being such a pessimist, but I really think you are not going to be that happy with your selection in the long run, especially if you are not planning to spray..

Also all these rose are quite similar in color. I personally think a little of different color will help to highlight you peachy apricot pallete.

Just kidding. I do know Ambridge is not a no spray. That was the non-semi part. Someone in my Rose Society has 3 Ambridge in a circle and they looked pretty decent when I saw them but I will ask.

Anyway, I was trying for some pink and some apricot. Maybe some salmon or purple perennials thrown in. But will any of those work at all? Any Hybrid Musks that would be no spray? What about Arethusa? Or am I just resigned to the EarthKind list?

Any other ideas? I guess I could do three Carefree Shrubs instead. Sigh.

Arethusa has very good resistance and quite hardy for me here. I didn't grow it when I lived in KY, but here BS pressure is much higher, so if it is decently resistant here, I would think it should be even better in KY.
The only resistant Hybrid Musk for me here is Darlows Enigma. I used to grow Lyda in Louisville and it was healthy. Another healthy HM was Bouquet Parfait. The Fawn is pink, not apricot, but has good resistance.
Buff Beauty is reasonably resistant for me her, again should be even better in KY.
I have no experience with Lady Ann Kidwell. Looks really pretty, Just checked HMF.

Jeri, can I grow The Fawn in alkaline soil? It looks tough to find, unless Roses Unlimited has it. But it is very pretty! Lyda Rose is a nice fit also.

How about some of the larger, more vigorous Austins such as Abraham Darby and Carding Mill? I have both and they're beautiful. It seems that your area can accommodate quite a few large roses, especially if you eliminate the liriope. Carefree Beauty in Florence's garden looks really beautiful in some pictures she posted. You may ultimately find that growing beautiful, carefree roses that are healthy and adapted to your climate may give you the most satisfaction. I can't grow the beautiful gallicas, centifolias and other roses that need cold but there are so many other options that it's not really a sacrifice; it's a tradeoff.

Ambridge Rose does OK for me semi no spray - but Tamora is better. Blooms more and is healthier - otherwise they are almost identical.
Have you seen MFK in person? I like this one somewhat, but the blooms have vegetative centers. Plus it balls. So the blooms really only look good on the first day they open and after that they look like wet tissue paper.
I am not a hybrid musk fan - the only one I've got that reblooms enough is Ballerina.
Perle d' Or - I know it's blasphemy to say this, but I don't like this rose. It's OK, it blooms a lot, but there isn't much fragrance and the blooms aren't large enough. It's another one of those roses that you need to see in person to determine if you like it. I already had it before I saw it in 3 different public gardens in one weekend and hated it every single time because when it's not deadheaded it's not pretty.
DdB is a wonderful rose that I've fallen out of favor with because there are other roses that smell better and she isn't blooming much in my garden this year.
My favorite teas (I don't know about hardiness): Etoile de Lyon for healthiness, Safrano for continuous bloom and good smelling blooms, Jean Bach Sisley for continuous, wonderfully fragrant blooms.
My good Austins:
Jude the Obscure for fragrance, Scepter d Isle for fragrance and continuous blooms, Abraham Darby (not disease resistant), Crocus Rose (healthy, continuous, not fragrant)
Other favorites are:
Prairie Harvest (Buck. fragrant. healthy), Mary Washington (beautiful habit, healthy, covered in blooms every day), Maggie (wonderfully fragrant, always blooming)

I'm going to throw in my experience with Duchesse de Brabant, even though my area receives less rainfall and less humidity that what you probably experience. No rose smells better, stronger, or more consistently than DdB to my nose. And mine blooms fairly frequently. It a beauty in every way, in my opinion. Individual noses, micro-climates, and personal tastes can make all the difference in the satisfaction one gets from a rose. Thank goodness there are enough varieties to choose from that we all get to be happy. I guess my point is, if you think you really like the looks and description of a rose, give it a try. You may be missing out on something really special if you don't. Some roses that are really well adapted to my area just didn't "turn me on" when I grew them in my own garden. And some that are not widely said to be well adapted for my area have proven to be genuine life-long treasures for me.

To my nose Perle d'Or has a heavenly fragrance. Its ribbon petal blooms are charming even if a bit smaller than average and the abundance and frequency of bloom more than makes up for the smaller blooms. I do not think you can go wrong with PdO and DdB. Both make nicely shaped rounded bushes. Also, that combination of pink and peach will work quite nicely together. As to the size, as I am not in your zone, you will need to heed Olga and others in your zone for growth habit.

I thought about Abraham Darby and Belle Story for this area and I think they would LOOK great but it is an awkward place to spray so I want the first half at least to be no spray.

My no spray list is much much smaller than most others, more like Olga's and she doesn't think DdB would be no spray even though it would look beautiful.

I am not really sure that I DO like Perle d'Or. It is popular but I don't think the small blooms (and 3 bushes of them) would make much of a statement for me.

So that leaves me with Arethusa for the 3 spot. Maybe I will put something other than a rose in the #1 spot. The problem is it is not sunny enough for a peony or rose but too sunny for a hydrangea.

Thanks for starting the discussion on Arethusa-i've been wondering about this rose lately. But you're not going to try Buff Beauty?? Or the Faun?? You're killing me Red! What about looking at some of the Fairytale roses as replacements for the Austins? Disease resistance is rumoured to be good. Another thought for position #1-picking up on Olga's suggestion for more color-a lilac bush? Don't they sell rebloomers now? Keep in mind that i am totally out of my zone. But this is fun!

I love lilacs but they need 6 hours of sun. I might think about that Fawn or Faun if it is available. I do love the Floral Fairy Tale. I could stick a couple of lame azaleas in the shadier part. I already have them in a too sunny area.

Redsox--Thought you might like to see what Perle d'Or can look like. Follow the link to the first picture--Oldblush is an amazing gardener. PdO is never without flowers and has a divine fragrance. If you do not like the small flower size, you should, of course, choose another rose. But, I just thought you might like to see PdO in action.

Why don't you try Morning Has Broken in there somewhere--freshest, most cheerful yellow, semi-double. I know it isn't a old garden rose, but it is VERY DISEASE-RESISTANT--and I think its semi-double bloom would blend in well with your OGRs. It grows about 4 x 4.

Just a thought.

Have you seen this thread yet? Good list and evaluations of disease-resistant roses. Maybe it will give you some more ideas.

Please don't be discouraged at how long it takes to come up with a final list for your gardens. I've sometimes spent months researching roses and continually revising my wish lists. You'll get there yet.

Have you figured out how much sun this bed will really get? I have Lyda Rose blooming extremely well in about 5 hours with shade at mid-day. Lyda Rose very showy when seen from a distance, as it blooms from top to bottom & is nice & bushy. (It does shed some inner leaves with BS here).Also in shade, I have Lovely Fairy which is a very low-grower just like the Fairy but is a deep pink whose color "carries" a lot better. I would not put Darlow's Enigma where I would need to hand-weed around it-- like Sea Foam it's just too painful!

That does look like a nice groundcover. But can I grow it in alkaline soil? Is the groundcover high maintenance, does it require spraying or lots of deadheading? I have also thought about Lyda, a single would be nice.

I think you'll be happier and have better luck if you consult your local rose society websites for disease-resistant roses in all classes and choose from that palette. I don't understand why you would want to plant both marginally hardy and marginally healthy roses. I find that growing known performers is much more fun.

No one in my local Rose Society grows any of the varieties I am interested in trying. There are very few OGR growers, I have only found one local grower who grows Mrs. B R Cant, Mme Jos Schwartz and that Green Rose thingy. Everyone I know in my local society sprays EVERYTHING.

I have Duchesse de Brabant here and it is spot free (I do not spray). I have it in a container so I don't want it to get too big. I'm one of those unforunate folks who cannot detect tea fragrances in roses but the Duchesse is one rose that I can actually smell! :-D
