Tell Me About Austin's Port Sunlight
Comments (4)I have this one. I was really drooling over it in pictures. Mine was a first year plant last year so the jury is still out on this one. I now have both it, and Claire Austin for that matter, set to grow up onto pillars since it appears that it wants to get rather tall like a small climber. It grew well and bloomed several times during the season. It appeared healthy with my spray program. However, its first year flowers were quite small, not much bigger than a mini-flora. The apricot color was nice when it first opened, but it faded badly. The flowers did have a nice smell. I hope for better this year, but we will just have to wait to see what it does. First year was not impressive. I was much more impressed with Carding Mill as a first year plant....See MoreLady of Shalott and The Wedgwood Rose?
Comments (1)Perhaps it was just the photos, but none of the '09s look all that special to me. A real off year. Perhaps he's holding off on some better ones until the economy improves. If you want gossamer petals, 'Heritage' fits the bill....See MoreTell me about your healthiest roses
Comments (17)I’m humid about 90 percent of the year, so I do spray. So far Julia child and madam joseph Swartz. They look great when I start missing sprays in the dead of summer lol. I did order some more antiques this year from ARE, and I’m excited to see how they do. on another note, I’m really jealous of those of you in zone 9 and up that have first crush do Well. I have two because I thought the first one was just a dud. It never grew, and barely bloomed. My second one is the exact same way, what gives?! I have a soul sister, so it’s not a kordes thing. Uhggg. Maybe this year will be the year lol....See MoreThe Wedgwood Rose, Sunset Dreams, Tijana, and Gigi
Comments (14)Thanks everyone. HighDesert, you will be very happy with Gigi. It's a greenhouse rose but does amazingly well in the garden. Rosylady, lol, I just captured it at its best moment. I think that rose just wants more sun. You are so right about Safeway, I always check out their mini roses even though I already have their star striped rose Tijana and Gigi. Sultry, people complain about DA roses because many of them look similar but I'm sure they won't have that complaint with The Wedgwood Rose. This rose is healthy, good repeat and has unique pointy looking petals. Sunset Dreams reminds me a bit of Augusta Luise in a different shade. Nick, thank you for the kind words. You can copy Ben and plant your roses in your neighbors' yards, lol. Helen...See Moremeredith_e Z7b, Piedmont of NC, 1000' elevation
