Busting Sod!

We have finally managed to coordinate the availability of a rented tiller with a weekend without rain and are busting sod for the fall garden. HEAVY work!

The solarized sections aren't all that bad. DH is griping but he doesn't know how much worse it could be because on previous occasions either I've grubbed the grass by hand or we've been able to hire a guy with a troy built or a farm tractor.

Healthy centipede grass is like kevlar to those tiller tine.

I'm sure that the raised bed and lasagna garden enthusiasts will be along to say I don't need to bust sod -- I could just pile money on it and wait a year -- but I tried raised beds and in this climate and soil the plants are stunted because I can't keep them watered adequately.

I've had my break and I have to go back out to spread lime and organic matter before they guys on the tiller make the second pass.
