Baby baby baby river birch with three stems

I apologise for inundating you all just recently. Thank you, in advance, for answering my posts. :)

I just (like two days ago) planted a river birch I ordered online. I'm quite okay starting off the vast majority of my trees as little teeny saplings. Fits my budget and my ability to dig holes in this clay central NC pretends to call soil.

But when I planted it, I noticed that there are three stems coming up from the base. Should I take the clippers to this right now and fix it before the tree gets going? Or is this something that I can leave and nature will fix for me?

At the moment the tree is maybe a foot high. And like I said, only just planted (you can even see the shredded paper it was packed in around the base).
