Pine Tree seedlings

Hi there,

I purchased tree seeds for a tree planting project charity for the local hardware store. For every tree purchased, they planted 2 more in their project areas. Anyway, all I know is I have an evergreen type - could be pine or spruce, but should be hardy for my area. The seeds are in a tiny peat pot with a peat disc. All I needed to do was water and wait.

Two weeks later, I have seedlings. 5 of them. This was a pleasant surprise. For $4 I have 5 trees. Very cool.

That brings up a little problem. Five trees in a tiny peat disc is rather high-density living!

Tips and tricks for how to separate these little gaffers without destroying their fragile roots, anyone?

And, specifically, how big should I let them get before I attempt this?

It sure would be nice to have all 5 survive, although that's probably optimistic. Right now, they're about one inch tall, sitting on my computer under a flourescent light.

Thanks in advance!
