Here are some pictures taken today of the wintersown projects I have been working on.

Thank you to all that have directly or indirectly helped me acheive this.

I love it. My white swan from last year's batch is blooming now. I should have some Harvest Moon in a few weeks, I hope. They're growing like crazy. The purple ones are doing well too. I really want to add a lot more of these to the garden. They bloom all summer here. And I scatter seeds like nobody's business.

Thanks guys! Mmqchdygg, I was looking for something wide and shallow for my sedums, that could stay out all winter without cracking, and that is all I could find. Originally, I had envisioned something shaped more like a large pasta bowl. It wasn't until I was on the way home from Lowe's that I realized it was a Devo hat! Kris, the trellis is my way of expanding my veggies, since my tiny vegetable bed is not enough space. I also plan to grow okra 'Red Burgundy' in the flower bed too, if I can get the sprouts to survive. I'm on my third planting. They germinate, and then stall out every time. Not sure what the problem is. Deb, the plants in pots on the porch are doing great, but most of the sprouts I've put in the ground have not survived. I've tried to put chairs or baskets over them, to provide some shade, and keep them well watered, but nothing seems to be working. It might be some kind of bacterial wilt, or fungus. I really don't have a clue. If you have rabbits, you might want to put chicken wire cages around your sprouts, like Carrie does. Bonnie

They never germinated period. After reading around on different forums and such I noted lot of folks talking about the low germination rate of this particular tomato. Maybe there is some truth to that. I sowed them all; how many were in the packet I can't remember. Out of strmywthr's seeds I only got 4 seedlings out of appx. 10 seeds sown. **** Vera, there was low germination with Black Cherry when TGS first offered it as bred by Vince Sapp, deceased husband of Linda Sapp who still runs TGS, b'c as Linda said, their own seed production for it wasn't all that good and there were too many immature seeds. But if anyone saves their own seed from Black Cherry and processes the seed correctly by fermentation or some other method then germination is usually close to 100% with relatively fresh seed. So I assume what you read referred to the initial situation with TGS, and that was true, but that was then and this is now and there no longer should be any trouble. And of course I know nothing about the seeds you got from stormyweather and if she processed them or got them elsewhere. Hope that helps. Carolyn

Are those gonna be raised beds? Great place to protect from the wind.

No, they're bottomless planters but they do give the effect of raised beds. It can get very windy here at times! The rocks and border were mom's idea of bracing them. I haven't figured out all the plantings yet, but I will in time.

It's windy here too, I'm about 750 feet above sea level, mountains nearby.

Gosh, I haven't even started trying to decide where things are going when they sprout. I will also be donating plants to local fundraisers and hosting a plant swap this spring. Still more sowin' to do!

I have few jugs but lots of sprouts in one of them. Cilantro sown on winter solstice & definitely sprouted by 1/6/11. As gardenunusual so aptly said, thank you to everyone who directly or indirectly helped me!

I use a plastic shelving unit from my shed turned on its side to keep them all together in mid feb. I cover this shelving unit with a 10 by 10 sheet of plastic and then put out tender annuals and tomatoe plants and pepper plants..I use styrofoam cups for these..I feel the styrofoam cups lets the heated up soil from the daytime dissipate the heat more slowly at nite..(just my theory.)It worked well for me last year..TomVa

Well now Tom I'm just gonna go and copy your very snappy idea! I've got a portable greenhouse I can tip on its side the same way. It's not good for much of anything else so I may as well put it to some practical use!
