Remember that beautiful, perfectly symetrical plant with the purple blooms that I shared a few weeks ago?

The one that Barbara recommended that I groom/grow for the national show?

the one with the gorgeous varigation on the leaves??

The one that I've been talking to each and every morning telling him that I'm growing him to take to Raleigh???

The one that I've been thinking about day/night and how great he continued to grow so well?

this morning.....my husband lost his balance on a step stool as he was cleaning the ceiling fan and when he fell....guess which plant caught him?

You guessed it. Every leaf on the right side of the plant is broken and mush.....and while I know it was an accident....I am still heartbroken.

Please pray for me....not necessarily cause of the plant but some other things that have been set in motion and will just have to play themselves out before we arrive at a place of peace.

Boopster, I'm so so sorry. I was hoping he would be ok. I'll be praying for you. I know it is so hard on you right now. I lost my collie of 10 years in 2005. I got her when I was only 7 and we grew up together. I was her favorite person and she was my favorite dog. I use to carry her to my grandparents house and she would stay right with me and not run off. It killed me when she left this earth. I loved her so much. She had a tumor the size of a huge cantelope on her stomach and it ruptured. I miss her everyday... there will never be another one like her and there will also never be another one like your special 'BOB.' I'm so so sorry. GennyM.... You may have already read this or have it, but after my collie 'Monzaya' died I printed this out and kept it. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. I had told her to go do what ever she wants to do and not to worry abou it. Each apartment here has stuff on the walls. One of the handy men told me one time that one tenant moved from a different complex and she had a huge mirror which they had actually glued to the wall. He said what a mess it tore the paper off the sheet rock removing it. I can understand their hesitation to have the walls ruined. My apartment actually, the last tenant and ruined it so bad they had to replace the sub floors ever. So I am aware that some folks are terribly destructive. I have a huge mirror on one wall that is hung with two picture hangers.Of course I'm kind of quiet and not rowdy so no ones going to bump into it, so no danger. When I moved out of the first apartment that I lived in here, every nail hole, I spackled, and touched it up with paint I had saved. Cleaned the carpets, windows scrubbed, walls all wiped down. Stove and fridge pulled out and cleaned behind. The place was spotless. But lacking one day notice they kept my deposit. So, I'm back again, knowing how they are and I have no inclination that when I leave to even pick up a dust bunny much less spackle clean and do the best I can. I know they don't care and by the way, their practice is to 'give the family time to move their beloved stuff". and keep the deposit. I've seen it done over and over here. And mostly people get their stuff out with in a week or two and then the apartments remain vacant for the seven months allowed by law for which they continue to receive hud for it. I know, I'm complaining, but they are stinkers (the housing authority) and are in the business to make money. I just hate it that they have so many people here scared to ask for things done that are necessary. It's a Senior place. People should be happy and comfortable and not have to worry about toilets, faucets or hanging pictures of family on the walls. I'm sure they have a lot of headaches. I think they have 147 or 168 apartments over three counties. Some, family ones, some Senior.They are all low income housing and/or Hud. They have one handy man working eight hours a day and another that contracts from them as needed. Some how I just never thought it might cost them to treat people as people and to treat them decently. the boss down there, strikes terror in my heart to talk to her cause she begins any conversation on the defensive and yells at you. So it really makes you hesitate to call even when it's needed. They have a line for repairs, ansering machine. With in the call, it says by calling this line, it gives them permission to enter your apartment when ever they choose with out appointment and at their convience. Old people are not so trusting especially ones that might have come here from the city. Enough already complaining.. Thank you for your input..

It just breaks my heart to read posts like this. Our pets are such a wonderful part of our lives and its gut wrenching when they pass away. My thoughs and prayers are with you Pauline and Ann. Time does heal and one day you will feel the urge to find another pet. For me it was much like LindaC. Our Gretchen passed away about one month after my Mother left this earth and I also felt like I needed some time but boy it was so hard to come home to an empty home. As if guided by a higher power I went to a pet shop for just inquire about a breed and I fell head over heals with a pen of puppies. But I wasn't sure it would fly with the family as they too were greiving. I went back to that pet store 3 times before I was sure. Abbee and Apollo bring me joy every day....I know that in time both of you will find a pet that will fill that hole in your heart. PEACE! Susie

I am so sorry! Our box turtle, Oscar, escaped his outdoor enclosure 7 years ago and we never did find him. Lots of hiding places here as well. We had him for almost 14 years. He was quite an escape artist and we used to discuss painting his carapace with really bright colors to make him easier to see, but were never able to find turtle-safe colors. Don't give up hope yet though, prior to his final escape, Oscar ran away many times and one time, he was gone for almost 2 weeks before I finally found him. Hopefully, your guy will show up as well. The best time to look for them seems to be very early in the morning, and after a rain when everything is still wet. Good luck!!

good luck and safe journey through all turns and rocks and mud life throws on our way.

Regarding my best AV - DH - we were loading the car - and I asked my hubby to hold the large blooming plant - and in 30 sec. 5 (five) leaves were broken - and he didn't even land on it

Not a wacky question at all.....My husband is fine (thankfully)...but he feels so guilty about what happened.

I've still got that huge epecia and I may be able to find another one to groom/grow for show and maybe in a few days, I'll be over the dissapointment that it won't be what I thought it was going to be.

Hi Dora,
Sorry to hear about that plant, however, it's not always the largest plant that wins BIS. Look around your area and see if you have a nice smaller one of for that matter even a mini ro a semi. They are much easier to carry and to transport to show.

this WAS a semi.....LOL.....beautiful........symetry,,,,,,total plant leaf span about the size of my hand...........oh, well :)

I had identified several that I was going to groom for show and I still ahve those, although they are nothing close to what the other one *was*.

Life goes on :)

It'll be quite interesting to see what I wind up with in 3 months....probabaly nothing close to what I expect now, LOL

I agree, Fred.

A lot can happen in 12 weeks.
After grooming that broken plant, I am still left with 2 solid rings of healthy leaves.....I've got plenty of time to see how this beauty can grow and produce.

So sorry to hear about your show plant,but glad to hear you are bouncing back abit with all these great posts from all! Happy to hear hubby is fine!

Dora I read on another post chamomile tea works for plant woes. It's the added shot that clears your mind.:-P

I hope your plant is recovering quickly and glad your husband wasn't hurt. I hope your other "things" have resolved and you are doing well.
Wish I could go to Raleigh, but it's not in the cards for me this year. I have only been addicted to AVs for a year or so, have not joined a club yet, but since I have moved to KC I plan to join one soon. I go to the show/sales every chance I get.
