I'm tap rooted, tap rooted Now that our musical interlude is over ... when I dig out something like that, I try to get as much as possible of the tap root, but often it isn't possible to get a significant portion of it. You just have to do the best you can, and at some point cut it off cleanly -- DON'T hack at it with the shovel, which can end up with it being a big, frayed mess. And, I DO believe that a wounded tap root should have the wound dipped into a fungicide like Captan or even Rootone F before replanting -- I think that does help survival.

So why do most answers deal with an individual's assessment of what is right and wrong to do, which is more properly an assessment of of what they themselves would do, which may have nothing to do with why the idea is being proposed? If large trees could not be successfully moved, no one would do it. If someone has a business doing exactly that, it would be no major cognitive leap to assume that it can be successfully done, and that there are benefits, real or imagined, in doing such a thing. Long ago, I stopped trying to figure out why people do certain things or to make sense of their reasons. Usually, when you get to the bottom of the story, there is a very real, very specific reason why they want to do something in a certain way, and if they have the resources to do it, well, that is the world we live in and has been since the first troglodyte found a nicer cave. I would have to assume that the cooler part of the year would be the better time to attempt a transplant project of any size, especially in a climate like FL. My calender tells me this is that time of the year. Contact the local nurseries or tree pros and verify. As to the size of the trees, it's well within the realm of possibility. Actually, if your size assessment is accurate, it may be within the means of standard equipment. I wish your project success.

i like your optimism... with that pot.. lol ... there is a theory.. that things prefer some bit of being pot bound ... yours will not be so for a very long time ... i might think about doing pot in pot ... right in that giant pot ... also ... you dont mention your media... trees prefer a sip of water ... then total drainage.. and near drying before the next sip ... the stuff you have in that pot.. looks like it might hold way to much water for a tree ... which can be solved.. if your smaller pot had media more attuned to trees ... trees dont grow like other plants ... it has probably put out everything you will see this year ,... thats it ... but it will be growing roots.. for next year growth ... probably time to plant some annuals in there.. so you will forget about your little tree for the rest of the season ... but those plants like a lot of water.. so you would be back to a second pot with tree media ... so you could keep it.. drier than the rest ... ken

@jjam Your floors look beautiful. @Angela Wacker I hope your floors turn out beautiful. @mdln these are such a good ideas/solutions next time I am doing a renovation I will make sure to get this kit. I went by the house in the morning and took a closeup photo (prior to getting confirmation from the contractor and subcontractor) It does look like white oak. @SJ McCarthy thank you for all the information, it gave me ideas on what to ask the contractor and how to have a conversation about the floors. I even came up with a few more stains to try in case the original choices did not work out. The contractor e-mailed me early this afternoon agreeing to test a few more colors. We asked him, again, regarding the type of floors we have and the new ones they installed, initially he said the floors were red oak, but then he texted us an hour later letting us know that the sub had informed him that it was white oak!?! What!! @Beth Thank you!!!! @SashaDog Thank you!!!! @G & S Floor Service @Timothy Winzell it appears you guys were right - it is white oak -probably. Quality/grade? who knows! I cant believe the contractor did not know this! It appears my worries about the floors looking red after a light stain were unnecessary. We stopped by the home to see the samples on our "white oak" and the white stain looked nice with the top coat on it, not pink. The birch was nice, but we decided to go with the white as it looks more like the natural color of the wood we love. I am still anxious about the overall outcome, but crossing fingers that it turns out nice. I am going by the house tomorrow and working from my car so I can take a look and stop the workers in their tracks if it looks bad lol. I am just kidding...but maybe I am not :) Here are the two samples we tried Bona Birch and Duraseal White with bona HD on our "white oak" floors (this is not 100% for sure lol).
