What do you do when your mail order starter roses arrive?

I ordered two starter own root roses that are supposed to be arriving in the mail tomorrow or the next day. They are going to be really small.

I am expecting shriveled unhappy little plants when they arrive due to the 5 day long shipping process.

I have never ordered plants through the mail before and am curious What other mail order gardeners do to help their sad little roses recover from the trip.

I have read different suggestions from different web sites and am wondering what works best for real rose lovers that order them this way all the time.

Any suggestions would be great!
