Did we kill our new elm?

We just planted a 35 gallon lace bark elm. We watered the hole of course and watered the tree after planting it. The next day it rained about an inch. We didn't water it as much the 3rd/4th day (big mistake!) and came home tonight to notice the leaves extremely dry.

My husband put a hose on it and let it run very slow to try and catch up, but I'm worried that maybe it's too late. If the leaves dried up will it die or is there a chance it will put out new buds? Also Home Depot suggested I buy Miracle Grow but once I got it home I realized it is not stating that it is for trees at all and online I find that it's possibly detrimental to the tree to do that.

Is there anything I can do to save this tree? I know it was healthy; I got it from a friend that works at a nursery and all the other elms there are fine. Since we got wholesale pricing from him we can't return it.

Should we keep trying to revive it or are we out of luck?
