3 year old seedlings

Here are a few of my 3 year old seedlings that I grafted. I had someone pick up cuttings when they traveled to Peru. I had quite about 6 or 7 of them that did not take but most did and are doing very well. She brought me huge cuttings so I was able to pretty much match up the girth on the scion with my seedling. I sure hope I can get some more cuttings as I have more seedlings I can graft on to.

These are much easier to graft and care for than my conifers. Conifers are very hard to graft...well mostly the after care to ensure the graft takes.

Here is one of my 6 year old babies. I have not grafted this one but this spring I pruned it WAY back. It really put out a lot of branches and got thick. I hope next summer it will put on some longer branches. he he...I think I may of OVER DONE the pruning.

P.S. I know I said it is 6 years old. Please remember I live in the frozen tundra so my plants do not grow as quickly as all of yours in the south.

This is another one of my 6 year old seedlings. It has not been grafted and I pruned this one way back this spring too. Here it is getting ready to bloom for me. Sadly, the buds keep falling off. I did not keep records as to the color of my older seedlings but I am ready to do that now so I hope it blooms so that I can document their colors.

I've always grown my small Echinopsis pups in small pots, but I've changed that last fall. The small pots always dried out so fast in the high summer temperatures and extremely dry air around here and I don't have time to water every other day. At the worst they had a high mortality rate and at best they lived, but never grew. Now I've decided to grow them in community pots and so far they have been very happy. The true test will come this summer when I'll be expecting a lot more growth. But you know your environment better than I do so small pots may work for you. Plus I am basically growing plants with the same needs and that makes a difference, too. Anyway--good luck with your babies. I've never had success growing from seed yet, but I keep hoping. :-)

Spring sickness and 2-3 year old seedlings

I have lost one seedling this year from Spring Sickness, but it was a tiny fan and not too strong anyway--may have been the one tet seedling I've ever grown. Some seedlings looked terrible last year,but snapped right out of it this Spring. I don't grow daylilies to sell and they are all either old historicals or my own seed grown plants so I never bother to cull, unless a plant gets too invasive somewhere, so I have seen plants that looked sad in their first years blossom out like a teenager when they are ten . One pale pinkish single fan started in 1999 now has over forty fans and I can't count the scapes, it's developed the habit of popping up two scapes from a fan and it's now bright red and been in bloom a week. I'm not at all sure what causes Spring Sickness---were I younger and better organized and not such a procrastinator I would like to try a few trials to see if I could learn something. For the last few years all of the plants that got Spring Sickness have been seedlings newly planted in cultivated soil--my established plants are not disturbed and naturally mulched by falling leaves and dead leaves and I'm wondering if bare disturbed soil splashing on plants doesn't cause some problems or if younger plants are more susceptible ?? Anyway I think some may grow out of it and be healthy adults just like bratty kids! -----------------Weedy

I have multiple 3 year old seedlings of Scarlet Buckeye (Aesculus pavia) and multiple 2 year old seedlings of Mexican Buckeye (Ungnadia speciosa)available for trade. These plants are the result of a consignment and are not stray seedlings from the garden. The plants are all 10" or higher with a strong central root and multiple leaves. I am looking for dark-leaved elephant ears such as Black Magic, African Mask, any from the Hawaiian Series of Taro, or any named species or hybrid with unusual characteristics in the leaves.

Hi Storey, Would love to get your P. coccinea and thunbergia clock vine but don't have any of your wants. I do have some white fragrant crinums, yellow flag iris, blue/purple with yellow beardless iris, red pine cone ginger, EE "Chicago Harlequin" and amaryllis, not Red Lion, but they are dark red. If you want more cannas, I have tall yellow with orangy splashes around throat, perhaps "Richard Wallace". Thanks, Betsy

Thank you all for the wonderful comments. I cannot seem to get enough peeking in on my adeniums. I find myself walking around them, staring at them as if they are going to do something spectacular while I'm there. ha ha.

I just placed an order for a few adeniums from Thailand. OMG I cannot wait to get some real adeniums that are not pink seedlings. I will keep everyone posted once I receive them.

I so appreciate having all of you addicts here and reading your trials and addictions. Thank you!
