Dahlias gone insane
Comments (4)The potted dahlias that are sold are usually either bedding Dahlias that only get to about 18", or they are treated with growth inhibitors to keep them short. Most Dahlias are 3.5 ft - 5 Ft. tall. Many of mine grow more like 6-7ft due to lack of full sun. Most people "top" Dahlias after the 3rd or 4th set of leaves. Meaning they break off the central growing tip. It forces the Dhalia to bush out more instead of just growing one long tall stem. Most Dahlias need to be staked well to keep them upright. Yours looks a little spindly from not being topped, but otherwise fairly normal. In most parts of the country people don't expect blooms until late June early July at the earliest. Most of mine won't bloom until August here in WI. I would go ahead and snip off the growing tip to force the lateral growth, but I have to admit that it will slow down the blooming time - still, in the long run you will get a stronger plant with more blooms....See MoreHas the salon industry gone mad?
Comments (17)Having been a hairdresser and a consumer, I see both sides. Just something to consider: First you get your hairdressing license. States vary on the amount of hours necessary to begin with. However, for many that is just the beginning of education. A top notch hairdresser most likely served as an apprentice for an additional 6 months to 2 years after completing beauty school. Then they take additional classes on a regular basis for more training. The classes they take aren't cheap, in fact some are quite pricey. Sometimes you need to travel to other parts of the country to get them as well. These are the people that deserve to charge these kind of prices in my opinion. After all it is our choice to pay these prices. If a hairdresser is exceptional they will be able to demand the price, and deserve it. They are also paying their medical and retirement out of their wages. The only salons I am aware of that pay benefits are the chain salons that pay minimum wage. People that are professioanl are paid accordingly, and I think that is right. It is kind of like a plastic surgeon with a great reputation. They can demand more because they have earned it. I personally pay a high price to get my color done because I know not everyone is capable of doing what I want and I am very particular. However, I get my hair cut elsewhere save money on that because I can't afford it and am happy with a cheaper cut...I get a basic cut for that very reason. I dry my own hair too. I don't care if I dry it, I do care about the results in the end and that is what I'm paying for. I budget for every six weeks, and it isn't so bad. I could spend that much on coffee each week! Just offering another perspective, so don't blast me!...See MoreOpinions please, Husband has gone overboard
Comments (39)Update: For the past 2 weeks I have been preparing yard and house for Son's Grad Party which took place this past weekend. It was well attended and overall went fairly smooth. My husband decided he couldn't wait anymore and talked to my son about things (without me being present). I was able to talk with son later, he says he "understands" and just wishes I didn't have to go. Have tried to give him opportunity to speak about his feelings My husband has laid on lots of guilt. Underneath it all have been the ugly conversations with my husband. Husband has now informed me that I can't take any of my furniture with me when I leave. "How would our son feel if he came home and (some of) the furniture is gone?" He tells me I can't take a large family painting (that my uncle painted) with me because he would have to paint the wall underneath and that wouldn't be fair. (I'm not joking) The lastest is the surprise vacation that husband reserved back in Feb. I told him all along not to include me in those plans. Now since my son doesn't know that I don't want to go, husband says and I quote "bite the bullet and go." My daughter is also going, so husband says it "still could be fun". However, I know that son and gf will have their own room- I just don't want to be part of that anymore. I feel sick. I confronted husband about the (nude)pictures of gf on the computer. He tells me that he would NEVER do such a thing. He was offended that I would think such horrible things about him. I have proof that he hacked the gf's Facebook account. He went so far as to change the email contact information on her profile, so that everytime she changed her password he was being informed by email. And I am the one who has not been loyal to him, and believes only the worst. Tells me that he has covered my donkey with our son(because I don't come home til 8pm most evenings)and defended me....See Moreinsane lenders
Comments (27)Wow - it is amazing - we finally closed last night! Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!! But during closing, more insanity popped up that I just had to tell you guys about. 1. We had a pool table that was originally listed as a "non-conveyance" - it was to be purchased seperately. Then during negotiations, the pool table was given to the buyers for free. Do you believe that this almost became an issue to the lender? I truly don't understand their reasoning, but it has something to do with you can't leave behind personal property that has a value and make it part of the house sale. Well in this case, it was FREE - so who gives a crap? I also left behind curtains, curtain rods, blinds shower rods and shower curtains - even the storage shed could have been considered personal property. Wow, I'm lucky the lender was ok with all that. 2. This isn't lender related, but this popped up and I was scared it was going to kill the deal. The buyers were very concerned about this, and rightfully so. In our area, if you own multiple houses, you pay one tax on your residence, and you pay higher taxes on any additional non-residences. Yeah, thats really fair. Thats like if you own 2 cars, but can only drive one at a time, you should be charged a higher tax on the 2nd one. Greedy scumsucking government! Anyway - I filled out my personal property taxes correctly, and claimed one as my residence, and stated the other house I was trying to sell. Well it slipped through the cracks, and I paid the lower tax on both houses. Good for me - I finally got a break. The title attorney noticed this and told the buyers if the county notices this error, the buyers could expect to pay the back taxes. How stupid is that - instead of them coming after me, they will come after whoever currently owns the house. The buyers asked if they do notice, can't they demand I pay them, and the attorney said, no - its YOUR bill if that happens and there is no way out of it. Again, good for me. Anyway, just more silliness that could have resulted in not closing. Well, maybe not "silliness", as this was no laughing matter. It was still a bit absurd, and it was a total shock to all of us. Luckily, even at the higher rate, these taxes are not astronomical. The buyers are getting such a good deal, and they are just as tired of jumping through hoops as we are, they allowed it and we finally closed. 3. Then another thing I found "funny". There we all were at the closing table - the sellers, the buyers, both realtors and the title attorney. The attorney was a soft-spoken man who was quietly shuffling papers back and forth between us and the buyers to sign. Just about the whole time the realtors were busy talking to each other, swapping "realtor war stories", and a few times they got so loud they overpowered the attorney, and you had to ask him to repeat himself. My realtor even got out some paperwork, and then said aloud - "oh I am just going over the paperwork of another closing I had earlier today". ?????? It was rude enough you were running your mouth and distracting us, now you are studying paperwork that has absolutely nothing to do with the closing at hand? Sorry, I found that to be very rude and unprofessional. Well I am glad it is finally over. You guys should also be happy, because now you may hear less from me! Now I can start concentrating on some home improvements I'd like to do and I can get back to having a somewhat normal life. Thanks to everyone who showed support and offered some good advice along the way. And thanks for just letting me vent my frustrations. Hopefully some of my venting actually helped someone else out there, and they can watch out for some of the pitfalls that I experienced. Good luck to everyone - hope everyone has a very nice holiday season!...See MoreUser
